EX250 es pretty fast for 250 cc bike, but it is still a POS. I am saying this like a mechanic. They suck to work on, especially to adjust the valves. The frame is weak.They have pretty short life, again because of the valves. If You go to Muzzy exhaust and K&N filters, You can make it move pretty good, but we are talking money here plus significant shortening of the already short life. About the gas milage- don't think it is better than the Savage. Anytime when somebody is asking me about buying an entry level croach rocket I recomend to stay away from EX250 and buy EX500 instead- same money , but a real bike.
On top of this we are comparing aples and oranges here.
If I would have known my 250 was a POS, I would not have bought it 6 yrs ago and put tons of miles on it. With regular maintenance, I have not had one problem with the bike. My brother has had his since 96' and put 40,000 miles on it and it still runs with no prob.
