Long story short, I was at a light it wouldn't go into first, I got embarrased and stomped the $hit out of it until it forcibly went into 1st. Now it really doesn't want to go into first and even when I get it into first the shifter doesn't lock out. I will still be able to push the lever down.
Thanks

Check the linkage. There's a rod, roughly 5 or 6 inches long, with threaded ends that can become bent if you mash the shifter too much when sitting still. I know; I've done it. The part is called a
GEAR SHIFT ROD and is part number 25525-21E50 (at least for my 1998) at RonAyers.com. It's currently $5.04 + S/H. If that's your problem, it's an easy fix. I keep a spare, though I may not need it since I've stopped shifting while still.
