Carbs

I want to replace the stock carb on my savage, and I've seen a couple of guys talking about using 36mm Mikunis. I measured the opening on the head side of the stock carb, and it measures 40mm. Why not go with a 40mm carb? I've seen a couple on ebay.

BTW, one of the carburetors I saw for sale was from a 2-stroke engine. That could still be used for this application, couldn't it?

Not everything is as it seems at first look.  The stock Mikuni CV carb on the Savage is a 40mm carb, but its' performance capability is less than a 36mm Mikuni VM or Amal Mark II round slide carb.  Swithing  from a stock carb to a roundlside will make your Savage feel like a totally different machine.  The power increase is significant and the responsiveness is remarkable.  I have used, and sell, all of these and can  testify that  by making the carb change it will transform your Savage.

The stock CV carb is made for fuel economy and low exhaust emmisions.

The Mikuni, Amal, Edelbrock, etc carbs are made for performance.

The stock 40mm CV is about equal to a 32-34mm roundslide.

**A carb setup for a 2-stroke "MAY" be able to be used for a 4-stroke single, but there is a BIG DIFFERENCE in the jetting, and on some carbs there is actually a difference in the carb itself...some parts a specifically for 2-strokes.

I figured there'd be a big jet change. What kind of special parts would a 2-stroke have? The carb I saw was a non-CV type.

Could you email me some info on the carbs you sell?

I am kind of tied up right now but will get you some info later.  I have a new carb kit on Ebay for the Savage, if you want you could take a look at that to see what all is included.
