75 mph in 2nd gear!

My dad just bought a 2006 1200 sportster custom, with sunglow yellow paint. And holly crap its fast!! 80ft lbs of torque!it never stops pulling in any gear,no matter how fast your going.u can be going 90 mph and twist the throttle and it still wants too lift the front wheel! plus it sounds bad a$$.its funny because if u double the savages cc's it would be 1300cc and would have 60hp ,the sportster has 70 hp,and 1200cc.thank god for pushrods!! i took the 883R for test drive, and it still has more power than the savage in any rpm, both sportsters have self cancelling turn signals, which is pretty cool.it has a trip meter too.the engine is rubber mounted,so its a lot more comfortable than the 70's models!!! matter of fact when your crusing ,u cant feel any vibrations, but when u come to a stop the whole bike shakes, just enough to get  [glow=red,2,300]everyones [/glow] attention.then when u take off theres that signature harley deep deep RUMBLE.

all in all its a KILLER bike. 8)

Congrats! The Sportys are great lookin' Bikes ... along with the new Dyna "Street Bob" and the Softail Standard ... hey I know H.D. is a "dirty word" to some, but lets be honest, they are the "benchmark" when it comes to Cruiser styling! 8)

Yup ... will admit there's plenty of RUB's Ridin Harley's ... even all the way out here in the North Atlantic ... but darn, the HDMC make some sweet lookin' Bikes ... most of the major Asian manufacturers have looked to H.D. for styling inspiration for their Cruisers ... though lately, some of the Far East Builders have come out with some unique looks all of their own ... Yami's beautiful Road Star Warrior comes to mind ... now only if Suzi's "Next Generation" 650cc Cruiser could be a V-twin RSW knock-off that would come in at under 400lbs dry ... hmmm ... that's a topic for another Thread!!

I just checked the Statistical Abstract of the United States for a few honest motorcycle accident statistics.  Motorcycles only average 1,854 miles per year.  Due to my 4 mile one way commute I only put on 5,000 miles this past year.   A LOT of motorcycle owners are not riding enough miles to maintain proficiency.

paladin,  that means you work 625 days a year!  Wink

Why the heck do people buy motorcycles if they aren't going to ride them?

That is if you assume he ONLY uses it for his work commute and never rides it anywhere else.

1000 miles ayear???!!!!  I've put a thou on my bike in less than 2 months!  In a normal riding year here in the midwest (feb- nov) I easily put 5-6 thousand a year on my bike(s)
