Engine issues

Hi All,

New to the site but want to ask for some help.
I have got a LS400 that has been sitting for 6 Years.
Changed Plugs, oil filter, oil, petrol and cleaned carbs. New gas and started it up..idled well but then oil seemed to be running into the exchaust and possible through the fins.
Is there something i need to do possible pistons not working?
This is a project bike and have not got the greatest knowledge but am keen to learn.
any help would be helpful

Peter

Welcome to the forum Peter  Smiley

I'm not sure I understand. Do you mean oil was leaking out of your engine and running down the outside of your engine/cylinder fins...

or...

...you were burning oil - oil and smoke was coming out of the end of the exhaust pipe ?

You are right there was smoke comming out the back end, so i think oil is getting pushed in there and also i notice the air fillter had oil through it and it was dripping.

I noticed the fins had oit afterwards so didnt see them oozzing out, will check tonight

Are you sure the oil is not overfilled ? There's a sight glass on the side of the crankcase on our LS650/S40s. It's possible your petc0ck has failed filling your crankcase with gasoline. Can you smell the oil in the engine ? Does it smell strongly of gasoline ?

Stuck float needle? Do you have a strong smell of fuel? If so, check two things - the fuel valve shouldn't be in the PRIME position - if it's not, then clean the carb.
