gel seat
04/17/06 at 17:31:29

I'm contemplating getting the gel seat for my S40.  The stock seat kills me after 45 mins.  Shocked Does the pillow gel seat raise the seat height any?  I can't go any higher with my short legs.  Also, does it truly help or will I be just as well off buying a pad of some kind?

Thanks

Not sure about the pillow top, but as I recall the standard gel seat lower the seat height.

The pillow-top raises it slightly but it's not much... at least in comparison with the stock 2-piece Savage seat.

Thanks alot guys.  I found a Suzuki factory made gel seat online for 179 and some change.  Now, I've just got to convince myself it's worth it.

I found one cheaper than that, you might want to wait and see if another one comes up. It sits a lot firmer than the original seat but is lower. You might post in the Marketplace that you are looking for one.

At Oneida Suzuki they're $162 for the classic gel seat and $166 for the pillowtop gel seat.  Both are S40 seats but will fit the Savage with very slight mods, even though their site says it won't.  I bought my pillowtop gel seat there and it's on my '98 Savage right now.  In the image below, the top is the pillowtop and the bottom is the classic.

Thanks for the link.  What kind of mod is required to get it to fit onto a Savage?

There are several ways to deal with it.  You can either drill the rear fender to bolt the tab down, or you can use a mallet to bend the metal loop on your fender backward a bit to slip the tab under it, or drill out the rivets and remove the metal tab from the bottom of the seat.  I first bent the loop back but eventually just removed the tab from the seat.

How does it ride? I've done a bit of modifying to my original seat, and it still gets tough after a hour or so. And been riding a LOT lately.

Thanks.

Felt better than the 2 piece gel seat after 120 Km.
Together with the new steering bar I have installed it's completely different. Steering bar is "farther away" so I'm looking for S40 risers to bring the bar "closer" to me.
The only things I had to modify on the bike: bent the U shaped attachment for the rear seat forward, drilled a hole in the fender ( watch the electrical wires) and installed a M6 rifnut.
