Well, tonight I went out for a nice long ride. Almost forgot I was only warming 'er up. Anyway, while riding, I noticed the backfire was much less, although still there. It also felt like I had more power. I never made any adjustment since the other day. I returned the mixture screw back to original the other day- 3.5 turns out.

Could turning the screw like I did and back out to original have done something for the better? There was no change in the mixture setting.

I left it as it is since it seems somewhat better. I was thinking about doing the spacer mod but am not sure if mine is an adjustable needle. I guess the only way to find out is to open it up. Can I get to it without removing the tank or the carb? It doesn't seem like I can get to those cover screws.

Pull the tank but leave the carb in place. Loosen the rubber mounting hoses (engine and air filter) and rotate the carb to get access to the top. If the screws strip (they will Roll Eyes) use needle nose vice grips to extract them. Replace with stainless allen heads from the hardware store.
