well thanks for all your comments and tips.  One day Ill scout out a flat road and maybe a large hill and dog it hehe.  I do kinda believe the road I have been using is too short because of a curve.
.

well hell jim,if we're all going to the shooting range sunday theres miles and miles of open road and a couple big a$$ hills, and with a little tweaking i know yours will go 100 mph.

a good question would be, what is the top speed of the savage on the 1/4 mile, because thats a little more like everyday driving.and a straight 1/4 mile of road is easy to find.i know for fact that our sporty does the 1/4 mile at 110mph.i dont know about everywhere but our local hooters has a dyno on bike night.

note:bugs feel like rocks at a 100mph Shocked

Been able to get my savage up to 93mph three or four times, took under a mile of flat straight highway to get there and I was tucked in tight. Still had some left in the engine so 100mph is within reason but a bit insane for a bike that light.  A lot seems to depend on how the bike was assembled in the first place and if the clearances in the power plant are tight, loose or just right. Throw in different weather conditions along different weight riders and you will find a large range of top speeds on bikes tuned the same.

sporty does the 1/4 mile at 110mph.

I just love to play with "fast" loud HD's on the road with the guzzi - turning into a hobby.

Prior to installing the apehangers, I could easily bury the speedometer needle on my 98. I do run it right on the ragged edge of hole the piston lean though. I've had the pipe glowing red, once. Bike still runs fine.

With the apehangers, top speed is in the 85-90 range, and fuel economy dropped from 77 mpg in town to 55/60 mpg.

Can your average, bone stock off the showroom floor Savage run 100 mph? Maybe. Should it? No way, the brakes and suspension are far beyond under-engineered for high speed operation.

Don't read that wrong, I rather like the Savage.

KLX does 100mph @ 7500 (red line) in top because that's all she's geared to do.

This is the first bike I've never topped out. I know of a great wide open highway with light traffic but there's ALWAYS a cop or two there & I've already gotten one speeding ticket this year. Had it to around 83 or so & it felt like it would do 90 or more if I gave it time but the back end was bouncing all over the place (before my Progressive shocks) & I didn't trust that front brake to do much if a critter crossed the road. Maybe one day I'll just take it to a track & let it rip.

If there are cops at that location all of the time, you might stop and ask them to help you by doing a speedometer check with their radar guns...then take off and do a speed check going away and  one coming back again.  You never know, they might go fo it, and you could ask if you could go up to 80 or so just to be sure that everything is working properly.

I was wondering where you guys ride that fast.  I'd like to try.  But, I'm afraid of a ticket.

Arfaid of a ticket? LOL Tickets can be paid, reduced, or even thrown out all together. The thing to be arfaid of is the blowout caused by the tiny little piece of the broken beer bottle that some cage driver threw out on the way back from a beer run. If you can ride without thinking about that, you could probably get 90+ like I did. Grin Grin

No guts no glory. Grin I suggest the interstate in the wee hours of the morning. If you really want to find out you will find a way. Excuses are just that... EXCUSES!!
