Single seat?
05/25/06 at 19:12:36
Has anyone here coverted their Savage/S40 to a single seat? My 2006 is strictly a single passenger vehicle. The only thing I like less than carrying a passenger is being one. I saw a Royal Enfield on ebay a while back - changed to military looking trim - OD and and a single seat. Got me thinking... TIA.
Regards,
Ken

I cut the back of my S40 seat off. Didn't have a need for it & thought it looked better after I chopped off the hump for more room. I took off the cover, sawed off the seat pan just behind the rear mounting brackets & put the cover back on. I trimmed the back of the cover some, then folded it under the seat pan & tacked it in place.

I have only the single seat on my LT650 Bagger version, back rest is attached to the front of the package rack that replaced the pillion seat. B-i-L has a similiar setup but back rest is on the JCWhitney "GIVI 42 liter trunk" knock off from China. We used the cut off bottom portion of the sissy bar on the older models to mount the rear of the package racks and mine cantilivers on the old pillion fender pads. B-i-L's uses some brackets I had on the shelf and attaches to the 2 front fender supports bolts and the front of the rack. If I remember the 06's have a stubby lift handle in place of the sissy bar. It would be easy to fabricate a junkyard package rack to that. JCWhitney trunk comes with a plate to allow trunk to quickly be detached for carrying in the hotel when you travel. Or if you want that military look, an old Honda cub rack could be adapted to fit PM me of you are interested in one, I snagged one off a cub in the junk ditch before they burned the contents and it is gathering dust. Also have a Honda tail 90 rack that I used at one time that has some potential, is is much larger and swuare with a back lip. Max

Thanks for the ideas. I have a small JCW trunk mounted on a 304 stainless frame mounted over the pillion seat. I have attached a lumbar pillow from Advance Auto to the front of the trunk. The thing rides like an easy chair. Just sort of studying the single seat idea at this point. Thanks again.

I'm thinking about getting one of those or one of these, can't decide.

Either should be an improvement. I'd love to hop on & ride for 2-4 hours at a time without monkeybutt.
