Peanut Gas Tank

Well, after riding with the peanut tank on the Savage, I've decided to revert to the stock tank for a number of reasons.  There were some issues I never entirely worked out with it.  Mostly, I don't really trust my machining ability enough to trust it mounted to my bike.

So now I get to decide whether to think about it and see if I think my way through the problems or sell it...

Kind of a bummer though...it did look rather cool, in my opinion.  Especially the apes.  Although it might have looked pretty good with a flatbar as well, methinks.

I like the little saying at the bottom of your message.  My feeling about life, too!

What part did you have to machine that makes you nervous?  There may be a different way to do it...

I think the drag bars look pretty good on the savage... but w/o risers they really wear out my upper back... that's why I'm prolly gonna go w/ apes...

The tank has 4 bolts that extend down from it.  To attach it to the tank I made a plate from 16 guage steel that roughly matched the size and outline of the tank, and bolted the tank to that.  The frame was connected in 3 places to the frame.  The rear mounting tab was used, and I used U bolts to tighten the plate down on the front (I used the metal mounts for the rubber pads that the tank rests on to anchor it to...the ones that stick out on either side).  So the tank was connected to the plate, which was connected to the frame.

Sounds pretty sturdy to me... but hard to tell w/o pics...  so the steel plate rests on top of the frame, and the tank sits on that?  hmmm I see...
