Just about every bike I've had has had a tachometer. My '96 650 doesn't. Now in the scheme of things, not having a tach isn't a major crisis or even a medium annoyance. It's just something I've been used to having. It's like watching a movie without popcorn. You can still enjoy the movie without the popcorn but having a big bag of salty, hot-buttered, freshly popped, popcorn just rounds out the experience and adds to the enjoyment.

In the Savage world, is it sacriligious to add a tach to the bike? Is there a good aftermarket tach kit anyone would recommend?

I did and added a Custom Chrome 310226. I had to modify the mount a bit and buy metric hardware, but I think I like it for now...It's like $85 on the Custom Chrome web page, but I got it new on ebay for $50 including shipping...

I shift by sound/speed alone...
