So far as Clymer manuals go, I'd expect they would have one and it'd run somewhere around $25 or so.  I know I've seen one through 2004 and I doubt much has changed.  I think they added the relay that kills the headlight during starting in either 2005 or 2006.  Personally, I like the Suzuki manual better but it is pricier.  If you want it, try THIS LINK.

Hi - I understand the other person's opinion of the (in this case) Suzuki manual as far as it being more comprehensive than Clymers (judging by past comparisons of other model/makes' manuals).

However, I've found such manuals assume a more technical expertise than a Clymers (they are, after all designed for certified mechanics), whereas Clymers does aim more at your average rider who wants to work on his machine. I also found when using a (British) Haynes manual for a British bike rather than it saying you need this or that special tool (as workshop manuals can) it showed you ways around them. I think Clymers are more that way orientated too.

Then you have the price difference...

Were I to buy a(nother) Clymers for the Savage (I already bought mine there!) I'd go to Amazon, $23.09 down from list $33.95 - as the other response states, the most current one is a 2004. I'd buy it with another book - hey, everyone must have a(nother) book they want! - so my order would come to $25 + so I got free freight (for only a $25+ order!!!), otherwise you'd pay about another $4-5 shipping for just the Clymers.

I have a 98 so mine is covered by either one and I actually bought the Clymer's first.  But after noting errors such as being instructed to rotate the engine in the wrong direction, I decided the Suzuki manual might be worth a try.  I'm no pro mechanic by any means and the Suzuki manual is easily understandable and more comprehensive.  Those are just my opinions though.  Whichever one you opt for, you may want to watch eBay for a couple of weeks and see what shows up there.  Also look in the Marketplace forum on this site and you may find one.  It probably won't be a 2006 version but the bike has changed very little mechanically (at least since the 90's anyway) and only some minor electrical and cosmetic stuff recently.  That said, most normal maintenance items would likely be unchanged.

I'm about ready to burn my Clymers. The book is really pissing me off. Riddled with errors, vague descriptions (I was checking the decompression free play yesterday Roll Eyes), and the worst index I've ever seen (you practically need a thesaurus just to use it.). The Yamaha V* 650 Clymers isn't any better, It's had my buddy and I scratching our heads a few times.

I use 3 books:
Clymer 2004
Suzuki with specifications up to 1999
Motorbuchverlag in German for European bikes

Prefer the Suzuki WSM.

For the wiring diagrams i use the German book because the other books are American based e.g the masterswitch for the lights is fitted to mine.

The diffences made to the bike in the course of the years are to some extend covered in the Suzuki WSM but as an example that a 1996 engine does not run with a 1986/7 CDI is not mentioned anywere.

Suggest we keep posting errors and/or differences in the appropiate sections ( read through them first).

Hi - me again - I know of a couple of errors in Clymers (such as incorrect rotating for TDC, but found this & @ least 1 or 2 other errors posted on this greaaaat site.

So, I know what I did - besides buying the Clymers, I went through site, looking @ & printing any & every "article" I thought of interest (including obviously several of the Technical "Forum" ones

I now have 2 binders (so far) of lots of good info...!

I just bought a Clymer Manual M384-3 (Suzuki LS650 Savage 1986-2003 on eBay.  Type in Suzuki Savage manual in the search bar under the topic >automotive> parts & accessories.
The price was $21.95 + $6.50 Shipping.
To Canada the shipping was $12.00 and with exchange the total cost was $36.96.
