Finally installed heat shield yesterday on my lunch break. A Samson 2 1/4" x 10". It covers up the end of the header, looks better. Brightest chrome on the bike now.

Neat isn't it - best price (factoring in shipping) I could find was from www.bikebandit.com @ $46.50, including their flat shipping charge of $6. Other places were less $$ for the shield, but the shipping made it to about $5 more than bikebbandit's overall total charge.

I'd love one but feel torned to spend 1/2 the price of my muffler on a shield, even if it looks so cool. Think I'll put my muffler on & see then...

PS - the Sampson part # for this is #H129 & it is called a Samspon 10" Straight Heat Shield For 2 1/2 Pipes.

Can be ordered via Aamzon for $38.95, but they just kick your oder over to Motorcycle Accessory Warehouse for fulfillment where you end up, woth freight, paying extra so overall it costs $5 more than from bikebandit.

I made an aluminium heat shield for KLX, not for looks but to keep exhaust heat away from the carb.

Thanks everyone for the comments.

I looked at the 7 inch JC Whitney one, but I wanted a
longer one to cover more of the end of the header.
The Samson heat shield is a H129  10" x 2 1/4"
http://www.samsonusa.com/samsonhome.html
(click on Accessories, then Heat Shields)

I ordered it locally from Lucky 7 Choppers
http://www.lucky7choppers.com
It cost me 39.95 +tax

Yes it is kinda funny that I paid $60 for a pair of HD
mufflers, then had to pay $20 for clamps and then
$40 for a heat shield....oh well, I like the final result.

I have not changed any jets yet, stock air filter too. I did drill out the
idle screw cover and have played with that a bit. It starts up without
using the choke at all, however, It runs better with 1/2 choke for first
mile, then I turn off the choke when it starts to lope or hit'n'miss at idle.
I get 50 mpg stop and go in the city, nearly 60 mpg in the mountains
or on the freeway.

The Universal Glove Bag is made by T-Bags - got it from Pomona Valley
Harley-Davidson for 66.95 +tax.  12" h x 10" w x 7" d     .5 cu ft
http://www.tbags.com/detail.aspx?ID=19&SelectedCat=2

It is made to sit on a luggage rack, but I turned it around to sit on the
pillon instead. It's not too big, sits 3 or 4 inches behind me so I never
feel it. Was just a little tricky to relearn how to mount and dismount,
it sits right where I used to swing my foot over the seat.
