Springer Seat?

I'm ready to move ahead and make my S40 a solo...

I've searched, but I can't find any threads that discuss the actual step by step installation of a springer seat. I know a few of you guys have done it, but I don't want to buy one unless I know I'll be able to install it with my limited skills and tools...can the brackets be easily fabricated or am I looking at custom machine shop work?

i've mounted my 9" solo seat several different ways now. looks like i've finally found the setup i like.

to answer the question, it was not difficult at all to make the actual mods, it really depends on what your plans are for the visual appearance of your machine.

a 9 inch chopper seat looks way to small with the stock fender. there is a 12 in at this site http://www.crc2onlinecatalog.com/chopper.htm
i'll be happy to send close up photos of the rear end.

currently mine is attached in the rear, with springs located along center line at front, and center point. it really fits the frame rails.

They are tapped for M8 bolts, but the tap only goes about 1/2 way through. They normally hold the fender on (thre are two other tapped holes that help secure the fender). I should point out that this is not how sprung chopper seats are normally attached...

I looked for a springer seat for mine, found none & went with a generic "one size fits few" I found online. That was over a year ago. Once in a while I open the box in the garage, look at my new springer seat, scratch my head awhile & put it back. Never figured out a way to put that on my bike. Wrong type of brackets. I would have liked to see how it would look but I've been in "modification overload" lately & just wanna ride awhile. Still, Savages look cool with springers.

I definateyl love the springers...in the gallery there are some really cool ones in germany I think it is. I spent the afternoon looking around for them but didn't find much. jcwhitney had like 15, ebay hardly had any.

Did you keep our fender? Alot I saw looked like they had either dumpe it or replaced it entirely.

Any links for some springers would be appreciated.

Scroll down to the bottom & check out Bryan Felsher's Hardtail. It's easy to see how he mounts the seat's rear; the front is a modified tank/seat bracket.

Spring solo seats & different length springs (I'd go w/2" or 3") can be had at:

If you have trouble finding seat & springs, email them.

On my old Moto Guzzi ('73 El Dorado), I fabbed some spring brackets (easy w/already-made hardware store brackets) that went below the frame, thus giving me a lower seat heighth. You don't have to have high seat heighth with a spring solo.
