Whistling sound...help?
08/07/06 at 13:14:57

So this weekend I finally decided to get in the carb.  I got a 55 pilot and 155 jet, shaved the spacer drilled out the mix plug and gave it 1.5 turns.  I think that all went well, but a few weeks ago I pulled out the air box and installed a filter.  To get the air box out I had to loosen the carb to wiggle it out.  since I put it back on, it has given me a whilsting sound.

I know its not the filters,  I have removed them and it still does it.  I didnt take the carb apart at all when I pulled the airbox.  I tightend the clamp as tight as it would go, still nothing.  Any ideas?

to see if you havbe an intake leak, take some starting fluid or carb cleaner and spray it around the flanges where the carb hooks up to either the filter or the engine.  Assuming the bike is running, the idle will increase a little when you spray it in there.

im assuming you installed a pod style filter..ive had the
lesser expensive ones have a leak where the boot meets the housing and the filter would spin from the engine vibration, try to spin your filter while the other end of the boot is snug on the carb...think i sealed it with a light weight clear lube.. hope this helps..
