Header Bolt

My inboard header bolt will not stay torqued!! Angry I torque it at room temp and take it for a short ride......let it cool and check and it's loose again!!
I was chasing a backfiring problem. When the engine is cool it won't backfire, but as it warms up it does, hence the header bolt backing out causing and exhaust leak. Right?

How in the world do you get it to stay torqued without over doing it? ???

check your slip on muff connection?? Parts can transmit a lack of torque. draw a line to understand.

Opportunities multiply as they are seized.
No spacer,60 pilot jet, 155 main jet, plug door, sportster muffler, k&n drop in, iridium plug, brake pedal mod,de-badged, Dunlops, bullet turn signals.

Do you mean, if the muff isn't lined up right, the header bolt won't hold torque?
The last time I did it I unbolted the muff from the bracket first, then backed off the header bolts and re-torqued, then tightened the muff bolts on the bracket.
Everything seemed to line up okay, didn't have to tug one way or the other to get the muff bolts to line up.

um, what kind of muffler are you using?  do you need a 10 degree adapter?

I think I read where he's running a Jardine, IIRC.

Okay, I think I got the header bolt to stay put for now. I'm running the Jardine( see bottom for the rest), 1 1/2 turns out on the mix screw. Still getting an intermittent back-fire between shifts. Sometimes a POP POP. But I can twist the throttle full open and snap shut and it won't do it!!! I can short shift and it won't do it!! Is the carb "loading-up"? Or should I shave the spacer more? Or go up a main jet or pilot jet size?
