Can someone please explain why the compression stroke needs to be at TDC to remove the head cover?  Is it necessary to remove the rocker arms of the valves when removing the cover?  If not, could someone then explain.

The rockers are attached to the cover. You don't want to take them off under pressure.

Thanks Kropatchek, and at TDC the valves are "down", correct?  Do you need to take of the nut only??  There isn't info in the tech section that I found.

Thanks!!!!

SB, If you mean that the valves are "closed" you're right.

What you mean by "the nut" , please clarify.

There's plenty of reading to do in the Technical section on your part, taking the headcover off you may find under Savage "Plug/Cap" Leak.

Also the instruction of the valveclearance adjustment would be beneficial for you to read. No offense.
