Thanks, now i am really confused.
I installed 4 discs. The Supertrapp instructions say:
A stock engine with stock jetting will not benefit from using more than 6-8 discs. using more than 8 discs will require richer jetting to prevent a lean condition.

I have a stock engine. Does this agree with what you said. i will need to go to a shop and I would like to sound like i know what i am talking about.

Thanks again-
jane

I'm running 4 discs but I live in a really quiet neighborhood & my commute is a slow stop & go with some windows down. I've got the pilot screw out/counterclockwise 1 1/2 turns, spacer 1/2 thickness & I'm going back to a 150 main jet tomorrow. I have a 152.5 main jet in it now, which makes slightly more power in the higher revs range but my gas mileage/range isn't very good so I'm going back to the 150. That's probably a fairly close starting point at sea level. I do get a slight "bark" between upshifts until about 20 minutes into a ride, when it's fully warm. I eliminated it going out 2 turns on the pilot screw but it didn't idle as smooth so I went back to 1 1/2.

Jane, the Supertrapp is a performance modification. If you run it with only a few disks, you are gaining nothing. There's no point to that. With a rejet and no other modifications to the engine, your Savage will run like a completely different bike - more torque, more horsepower, more sound. It's not overly loud but does make some noise.

The Savage is very lean from the factory and could benefit from a rejet even if totally stock. The bike will run smoother, start easier, and perform way better on the highway after rejetting.

Try yours with the stock number of disks and see if you can tolerate the increased noise. It won't hurt to ride it with stock jetting for a short time. If it's something you can live with, plan to rejet. It will make a big difference in the way your Suzuki performs. Gas mileage will still be good (I probably get 55 mpg when not twisting the throttle heavily). If you want fewer disks to lower the sound level, you would still benefit from a rejet.

You lowered the backpressure when you added the Supertrapp. This makes the bike dangerously lean and will blue your pipes.

Decide how many disks you can tolerate first (I recommend what it shipped with) - then rejet accordingly. I can tell you what jetting works extremely well with the original number of disks.

Dynobob-- thank you so much for all your help and great info!!

I took the bike in to get rejetted and now it runs beautifully. Smoother and more power. The mechanic put in 6 discs, I had 4. Just the sound I wanted too.

This site and everyones knowledge is the best! You are my hero Dynobob.

Thanks,

Jane

Excellent! Glad you got your Savage running nicely. You'll notice a big improvement on the highway. I did notice mine runs smoother too and starts easier. Have fun  Grin
