Be sure to have the gasket that goes between the head and exhaust pipe on hand as you will need to loosen the exhaust pipe to align the muffler. Max

Also that fiberous bushing at the end off the pipe, about 1 1/2" long has to come off first or it doesn't slide on far enough for the holes & bolts to align, at least on mine. My SuperTrapp was touching the axle bolt after tightening it all up, so I loosened it & turned it slightly outward. Otherwise, a piece of cake. Sounds good & runs good.

I had to cut some metal off the end of my header pipe until the bolt hole on the muffler lined up with the bracket. No gasket between the muffler and header. I put some high temperature Permatex silicone on it and it seals well. I would suggest replacing your header to cylinder gasket at the time of the muffler swap too.

Put a SuperTrapp on my 05 S-40 recently and it is great!  Recommend you pull the entire exhaust system.  This makes it easier to get the old muffler off.  Also you can clean up the header/cylinder junction so the new gasket will seat properly.

You are going to be very happy with this mod.

We just installed the Supertrapp. Took it out for its first ride today. Sounds great, runs fine, but noticed that it has already turned a gold/ blue color at the end that attaches to the pipe. We installed 4 of the discs and the end cap. The end cap also turned gold. What does this mean? Whan can I do?

Thanks!

My endcap is gold and my bike is jetted properly and on the rich side. Gold is fine. Blue is lean and what you should be concerned about.

Did you do any jetting? You do realize less disks is less sound and less performance? Your jetting (whatever it is) will be richer with less disks.

Be sure to clean any grease, oil, and fingerprints off the exhaust with some solvent. I wax mine with Maguiars Car Cleaner Wax. I have no coloring other than the endcap.

Mine turned gold the first time I rode it, along with the end cap. Starting to turn blue at the front of the muffler. I know it's a little lean in the mid-range, cause there's a little bark between upshifts at mid-throttle. I'll get around to tweaking that next month. Using 4 discs here too. More & I needed earplugs.

Thanks everyone for your answers.
Babbalou- that is exactly what mine is doing. Bark is the perfect description. Tweaking the fuel mixture is not something I know how to do, would have to take it to a shop. Is it crucial to have that done? What happens if i leave it alone? Would it keep getting more discolored?
Hurt the bike? You're right, 4 discs are plenty.

Thanks again

I heard a rule of thumb that if it's lean enough to damage the engine, it'll run badly enough to let you know. Probably different opinions on that but I think it's close. If the carb has factory jetting, it's really lean now with the SuperTrapp, even w/4 discs. It will run cooler & make more power with rejetting.

Took the bike for a 100 mile ride today. The muffler is turning bluer and starting to spread further down the muffler. The end cap is not blue, just a darker gold. Seem to still run OK.  I think i need to take it in to a shop to get checked out, this is not something i can do. Is it an expensive job to be rejetted?

Thanks for everyones input!

I got my Supertrapp from Bike Bandit online.
Cost $236.
Just talked with Supertrapp customer service and they suggested that 6 discs is recommended. Also to check the color on the plugs and adust the discs accordingly.
dark and sooty  too rich add discs
ashy color too lean remove discs.

What do you think?

thanks again

I don't agree. You should have your carb rejetted. Run with the disks that came with it (7?), install a 155 main jet, and cut the white spacer over your needle to 1/2 thickness. Your bike will run great and the exhaust won't change color much. I run a 157.5 (one size larger than 155) and my bike runs great.

Fixing your lean jetting by removing disks isn't the best way to go about it.

If you need help shaving a white spacer (for the shop to install), give me a shout.
