HI folks....thinking about buying  a savage but will need to have it shipped. Any experience out there with shippers? There are several on the internet but I'd sure like to hear from someone with direct experience. Thanks!

Can't really say  that I have experience with shippers but I know they are expensive. When I bought my bike I went and got it in Maine. Flew up, got a rental van ("06 Dodge Grand Caravan), picked up the bike and drove her home. Total cost including gas and tolls = under $350.00. The cheapest shipper I could find was between $600 and $700. And even then I was going to have to wait 3 to 6 weeks.

Incidentally here is a review of DAS that I found on eBay.

I've used Forward Air a couple times. They used to be the cheapest but their prices have jumped up quite a bit. They have shipping containers (which solves the crating problem).

Yeah, here in Canada at least, shipping tends to be expensive ... back in '03 it cost me $460 ($400 for the Bike and $60 to have it insured to the value of $5K) to have the Savage shipped from Toronto, Ontario to St. John's, Nfld. in the factory crate via ground transport ...
