azjay Serious Thumper Offline aridzona... its a dry heat Posts: 816 Gender:	engine guard and hiway pegs 10/14/06 at 07:41:44 i finally got the engine guard and hiway pegs mounted, the guard is an "off the shelf" suzuki part ($86) and the pegs are "off the shelf" V-TWIN part ($40). i think tomorrow, we'll go for 300 mile putt, and let her give them a good break-in.

azjay Serious Thumper Offline aridzona... its a dry heat Posts: 816 Gender:	Re: engine guard and hiway pegs Reply #2 - 10/14/06 at 19:16:26 i ordered the pegs through my harley dealer, but any V-TWIN distributor can order them. http://www.vtwinmfg.com/NewVtwinWeb/ one bolt clamps each peg to the engine guard. the engine guard mounts with three "U"bolts, and clamps right on to the frame. it cant get any easier than that!

Hey nice lookin. So when you placed the order for your foot pegs what style did you get and how much? I have a Harley Dealer around the corner from my house that I can go to. I really like yours could you tell me a model # of some sort and was it an easy bolt and go? I've been wanting to get new ones. I might also install an engine guard but maybe later. I've been wanting new foot pegs for a long time but haven't seen anyone with them installed. Let me know.

You can get them at JC Whitney at a good price. That's where I got mine and they were around $40 if I remember right. 120 mile ride saturday,150 mile ride yesterday, i watched her use them quite a bit, of course now she wants a backrest Undecided

so we'll have to start shopping for a sissy bar back pack next Roll Eyes

em, the lower pegs are highwayhawk, i ordered from classiccruiser, they are bolt-on specific for the savage, one bolt in each peg, as easy as it can be.

911, it appears your pegs may have a more adjustable clamping feature(better), is that engine guard 1" or 1 1/4"? the problem with the suzuki guard is that it is 1", which severly limits what is available, otherwise the pegs are the same ISO type.

ratdog, the sportster seat mod, is the single best mod i've made to this bike, without a doubt!

Hey guys, Azjay i have the exact same setup as you do and i found my bars to be too close to allow full leg extension. I'm only 5'7'' and it feels like im squating on my bike with my feet up. I was thinking of getting some metal spacers to put in between the bar and frame with longer U bolts.

Are you actually putting your feet on the pegs or resting your ankles on it?

The Wingerline bar is a 1" bar. As far as the clamping feature, it consists of (I think) 4 allen head set screws that attaches the two clamps together. To keep from marring my guard, I used thin foam camper tape to line the inside of the clamp when I attached it. Seems to work pretty well.

I don't use my pegs a lot. Only when I want to stretch out for just a bit. Otherwise, I ride in a conventional riding stance. Due to the shorter frame of the Savage, if I put my feet on the pegs I can't stretch as much as I'd like, but it still gives me that brief rest if I move my feet out there every now and then.

this bike is actually my wife's, she is 5'6", and she was riding feet on the pegs as well as ankles on the pegs. as a matter of fact, she had me rotate the pegs forward a bit, so she can lay her feet on top of the pegs and support the toes of her boots. even on my harley, i lay my ankles across the forward controls for full extension, i believe that is normal.
911, yep, it sounds like you got a much better hiway peg than we did, i was looking for the type that you got when i found these, perhaps i'll order another set from j.c.whitney. as you said, not the whole time riding, just to give up some wiggle room while on longer rides.

Saw a pic a while back where a fellow had blocked the top clamp out with wood. Added 2 or 3 inches to the reach. Might be just enough to help. Have considered doing that, just didnt want to use a block of wood.

I have found neat stuff for low $$ by going to welding supply shops. I dunno if you'd call it a welding suply, I go there to buy metal. They will cut off any length, but if all ya want is a couple of inches, buying a foot may be the minimum. Maybe you could find an aluminum box tube a size that would make a decent spacer, Ot stack 2 up. Aluminum square tubing is common enough that ( I would hope, anyway) caps are made for it. Might look allrite, having aluminum shims, I LIKE those bars, I can see Bull with a set..
