Fuel Gauge... Is aftermarket one around?

My S40 didn't come with a fuel gauge. Do they make an aftermarket version that can be added on?

Sure it did. It's called an odometer. When you click off 100 miles, better be looking for a gas pump!

yeah they do, it's called the reserve, hit it you got about 20miles on the slab, or about 25 back road cruising.
i ran thumper dry on purpose twice to get a reading of how large the reserve is.. it does appear to vary machine to machine.

I would say judging from the previous replies that you can mark that question up in the "NO" column.
When you run out turn it to reserve. When you run out again you went too far.

I have gone 110 miles once without hitting the resercve and it took 1.8 gallons. The specks on my 2006 says it has a 2.3 gallon main tank. I don't think I would want to go much further than 120 miles on back roads and not much over 100 miles on the Interstate. It usually takes between 1.7 and 1.9 gallons every 95 to 105 miles depending what type of riding I am doing.

It's a 2.3 main, plus another half gallon for the reserve. My Thumper can take 2.93 gallons into a bone dry "I laid it on the left side to slosh the last drops out" tank.
The way I ride in the city I get about 45 mpg -- about 100 miles to hit reserve, another 25 miles before I start walking.
On the highway I seem to get about 60 mpg -- about 140 miles to hit reserve, about another 35 miles to panic time.

I use to use a bike computer called the sigma sport 1600. It was awesome. It had a speedometer and two tripometers and an indiglo backlight on it. It only cost like 30.00 (check ebay) and it was nice to see the speed on the handlebars insted of the gas tank.

I saw a neat looking gas gauge on a custom bike. It was a sight glass mounted on the side of the tank. Cool as long as nothing hits it.

I wanted to say that. Your mileage will vary and depending on quality of fuel available (ie. SKAT, Gas-N-Go), I would not trust that last inch of fuel. I've gotten to the point that I can guess when the reserve will call. Make sure you know where your next drink is coming from.
Anrelated but still a fuel question. Out on the West Coast, Texas or California I had a field supervisor turn in a reciept for gas from a gas stop that was paid in Mexican currency. Can someone help me understand that. I don't care if the taxes were paid on the fuel, I thought that it all should be US Sales.

I'm actually going to look into modding a fuel guage because I am lazy and like seeing how much fuel I have at a glance.

There are some manual gauges that use a float on a spiral strip connected to a pointer. Sometimes found on lawnmowers.

I have always wanted to do a mod to make a red light turn on, just to the right of the green neutral light when the tank was getting low. I'm working on one now.
