Brake issue - after a drop
12/09/06 at 08:00:35
Dropped the bike a week ago. (look out for the cooking oil restaurants dump in the street
)
Front brake was working fine after that. Then 2 days ago the brake handle needed to be fully squeezed for any braking action. Then yesterday, it totally does not function, had to rely on back brakes, that's no fun.
Is this something easily fixed, or should I give in to bike shop fix.
bike started and ran in 20 degreee weather in in nyc the other day, that's a tough pregnant dog of a bike there.
any recs on improving winter performance of my baby.
thanks all.

Did you notice any brake fluid anywhere along you lines running fro the resevoir to the caliper? It is possible you make have cracked a line, especially if it was cold weather. First check to see if the resevoir is full, and go from their to see if you have a leak. If the resevoir is low, top itoff and and pull in lever as you look for leaks along the lines.

I agree with Hutch - sounds like a fluid leak until gone...check everything from MC to caliper...

If you find no leak per Hutch's advise, then it must be bypassing inside the master cylinder. You can try to rebuild it with part from RonAyer.com
http://www.ronayers.com/fiche/300_0039/front_master_cylinder_ls650p_1986-1995...
I think you will need Item 1
PS: You might want to check for crack on the master cyclinder as well
