Aside from that, there are folks who are running a ceramic pad, sbs581hf is the part # I got & put in my records for future use. Organic is fair, thats the EBC thing I am running now. Better is needed for this anemic front brake,

Reply #2 - 01/23/07 at 19:49:56 FWIW, I've been down that sintered metal brake pad road and I didn't care for them. I can remember seeing tiny corkscrewed metal shavings coming off the front brake rotors of my old '81 GL1100. Pads are a lot cheaper to replace than rotors.

"Best" is subective. What is best for one may not be best for another. For me:

1. Price
2. Softer than the rotor

Stopping power is not an issue. How weak or how strong the brakes are simply dictates how far ahead I need to ride. I can and have driven with nearly no brakes -- once with almost dead hydraulics and no backup, another time with the handbrake and no hydraulics. Thumper is hurting -- I've not been using my rear at all for the past three months as I think the shoes are worn out. Figure to replace with the tire.

Others may require maximum stopping power. But if that is the case you might want to consider going with a larger brake, or dual disks.

Reply #6 - 01/24/07 at 15:46:17 It is better to use sintered pads when available and when the price is bearable. The thing is that EBC doesn't make sintered /or double H/ pads for LS650. The EBC part is FA106 and there is not FA106HH

If I remember right the sbs ceramic's were rated HF - the highest friction rating I could find for the savage - it seemed to me at the time they were wearing on the rotor some but did not mic it before. at around 20k miles replaced the rotor with a drilled EBC and organic pads.

Perry, or any one else using the SBS's, are you seeing more wear - likely take a mic on the thickness over several 1000's miles to find out. If so I'm not sure it matters anyway - rotors aren't meant to last forever
