Winter's here, and all those exhaust fumes and stuff are collecting on my gas tank daily, making it dirty.

I've been using disposable wipes all around the house. Glass cleaning wipes, toilet bowl, furniture, disinfectant wipes.

Does anyone know if they sell gas tank polishing/waxing wipes? Would pledge furniture polishing wipes work? Anyone have any ideas for an easy disposable way to keep the gas tank clean?

If they don't make disposable gas tank wipes, I want the patent!

Where is it parked? Can you cover it with an old sheet or would there be people hollering? Maybe take a tee shirt & cut it & wrap & tie it on the tank. Cut with thin strips left on it you could tie it on like a bandage, it wouldn't flop in the wind & scratch paint.
If a tee shirt had the chest cut out of it & the sleeves left intact, shortened to a couple iunches below the sleeves, would it fit on the front fender? I went & looked & I think it just migh fit on it.Might need a wire to poke it up over the tire but I think if I turned the friont wheel I could get th\at end on, then straighten it up, pull on the sleeve & slip it on the fron & have the fender covered & it wouldn't wiggle in a light wind & scratch paint.

Well, if this helps, good, if not, the laff is free. I do some odd things, but a lot of them work & I get what I need for real cheap or free.For some re4ason I like that better than paying full price.

We needed another closet & when we moved in there was a shipping crate about the right size. I had a carpenter build a door & shelves & drawers on rollers( used bearings from inline skates) WE have a good sized closet, cost? Darn cheap. Odd looking? Uh huhh, don't care, cuz it works great.

I wouldn't use those commercial wipes ever. No telling what they are doing to wax & paint. I always save old tee shirts & 100% cotton things when they are old & ugly & going out the door. That's what I use on the bike & cars & for shop rags when I am getting dirty.

I use the Meguiars Quik Wax spray.
First, clean your tank with a mild detergent and a damp soft cloth. Apply the Quik Wax afterward. Quik Wax is carnauba wax and has no abrasive cleaners. Suggest you spray it on a soft cloth first. The spray goes everywhere and can't be controlled for small jobs like this.
If your paint is still shinny after you clean it, do not use a cleaner/wax. This stuff has abrasives and might remove some of your clear coat.

Most bikes are kept in a garage, so I would expect your paint to be in good shape even for older bikes.

I don't know of anything out there that will simplify this as much as you want. Typically cleaning and waxing is a 2 step process. You need to get the dirt off first, so you are not rubbing the dirt on your paint. That will make your paint appear dull.
