If I stick a 97 engine in my 2005 chassis will it work, just plug it in & go? If not, what will I need to get?

No problem, just plug-and-play.

Any five speed savage engine will work. The wiring problems occur when you replace a four speed with a five speed or a five speed with a four speed. Beside that it's a "plug-n-play"

If you don't mind me asking, what happened to the '05 engine to warrant putting a '97 mill into a 2005 chassis?

Nothing, YET, I am picking up a 97 engine as a spare cuz I ride it pretty hard & if the engine develops a problem that willn take some down time to repair I want a spare to stick in while I get it fixed up.

Backup engine, yeah right. Bet cha that you will "warm up" the backup engine while it's on the bench. That way when you do swap out the '05 engine you savage will really run like a raped ape.
, you can't fool this old fool any
