franch Senior Member Offline I love YaBB 1G - SP1! Posts: 287	seat reapolstering 01/28/07 at 15:54:26 My seat is old (98) and starting to tear. should i have it reapolstered in leather or vinyl ? i want to go with leather but heard it cracks from the sun etc.

other side of leather over vinyl (discounting drying out) is it getting wet. when I had a leather saddle on my bike it came with a little cover. I know leather jackets get wet but they are not possibly left outside during rain for a while thus maybe damaging them.

Maybe others on this site who have had leather seats may say otherwise, in which case I stand corrected.

then of course there is cost...

know this varies from place to place but I got my seat & rear seat (not the sissy bar pad) replaced with vinyl for around $50 - it did not have cross pattern like original Savage seat just a "solid" top (matter of cost - cheaper) but I think it looks cool like that (sorry can't take photos & upload - don't have experience w/camera to do it)

just my 2 cents, for what they are worth

Products have long existed to keep the leather soft and pliable.

If you can work leather, then take your choice. I personally prefer vinyl, simply because it's easier for me to deal with. Other people prefer leather for a host of reasons.

i am going to take it to a guy i met who has all the heavy duty sewing machines and tools. he showed me many pictures of other seats he has done. while at it i am going to have him shave a little foam off the rear top of the driver seat and a little off the front top of the passenger seat, i should be able to stretch out a little more.
I decided to go with a dark brown thick leather.
