Head Gasket

I have a 1986 savage and I am new to this forum.
" a weekend M/C mechanic" that have seen the bike said that it needs the head gsket replaced.
The bike has 21,000 km. There is some oil on the lower half of the cylinder, but not much.
1. is it common?
2. what should it cost?
3. is there any "quick fix"

any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks

Read the Savage "Plug/Cap" Leak topic in the Tech Ref forum and see if that looks like your leak.  Remember that airflow when riding, as well as vibration, distribute the oil away from the point of origin.  That leak is common in LS650s before about 2002 or 2003 when Suzuki corrected the problem.  If that's it, well, you'll see what needs to be done.
