My friend Kara picked up a 1971 honda cl450. She did this off of the advise of a friend. The bike was a heap and a money pit. Unsafe for her to ride. I told her to sell it immediately. She did!

Fast forward to two weeks ago. We are at my buddy's cycle shop and he knows she is hunting a bike. He said he had one but it needs some work. It was an 03 savage with front end damage 500$!! She bought it the next Monday!  

This bike flew off the road with the rider on it. He meandered off the road thought he could calmly return to the road from the grass shoulder. But there was a perpindicular to the road drainage ditch. Guy is lucky to be alive broke his hip in. 4 places.

Either way he was done. Want bed 500$ for the bike.  She bought it. One fork tube was bent at almost a 90 degree angle. The other not so bad. Our friend straightened it for us. And did the same with another purchased on eBay. They worked but It just didn't seem right. So a quick craigslist hunt brought up a 87 savage parts bike!  We drove the 150 miles round trip hauled it back. The next day we switched over the forks and got her 03 savage rolling. We had to do a little wiring and change the bent handle bars.

I just got it running yesterday. 2 weeks total. 850$ total investment. Bike runs great.  All it needs is a rear turn signal!

I used these forums for weeks before we bought the bike. Never posted. My account was purged. I just wanted to post and thank ALL of you who have made this forum so easy to navigate and full of information.

Before the bike was even rolling. We installed a raptor petcock. Aquifer the nessesary peices to do the cam adjuster mod. And have all the info we need for switching to chain drive!

Riding, sweet tea, the list goes on, but those are the biggies...

Just picked up my bike (ok noob question...  What do you all call the S40/650? LOL) on Saturday. Haven't got it on the road yet, we're waiting for the oil filter, front brakes and tires to come in.

I got a smokin' deal on it (I think...) paid $1500 for an 06. just under 9k on it. dinged tank and front fender and the muffler's been drilled, but nothing I can't work with in the short term.  

Plans for the bike are to add hard bags (with built in turn signals), wind screen, replace/bondo the tank, front fender and stock exhaust (don't like loud) and get the whole thing painted.  oh, and a stand-alone, USEFUL luggage rack.

but that's after we get it safe first...  the front brake is under 1mm, tires won't pass state inspection either, and the oil isn't bad, but it's getting Amsoil and a new filter, just cuz.

oh and it'll also get a radio down the road too (amateur, not broadcast or cb). if I can pry it off of hubby's Shadow or find one for myself.  LOL

I call mine savages, cause they are... LS650's all.
If I see one on the street, I'll call it a savage regardless if it's an S40 or not.  I believe the label on the head tube still says LS650.
If someone says you got a boulevard or a savage just say yes it is and smile.  

Before you put the Amsoil in, check with some of the experts about Shell Rotella T6.

Brand new here! I just bought my first s40 a few days ago. She's a 2011 and had 285 miles on her. Already put another hundred on, and so far, I'm in love.
