Greetings from Tucson, I just recently purchased my 2001 Savage with 770 miles from a dealer. I have already replaced the petcock valve with a Yamaha and that went well. After reading many posts here, I'm well aware I need to check the chain tension and probably replace the tensioner with the welded version.
I am new to motorcycles and have yet to take the class etc. Yes, I know I bought it before knowing how to ride, but hey, you have to start somewhere. I have my riding equipment (helmet, jacket, gloves, and boots) and will be taking the MSF class soon.
Thanks,
David

Hey I'm Liz and I just bought my first bike, an '03 Savage. Commuting to work on her currently, and loving every minute
I'm in Portland, OR and starting to go to pnwrider meetups which is fun. Have a couple mods in mind - I'd like to change out the bars on the bike, and maybe add a kick starter at some point.

Welcome Liz.
Changing the bars is a piece of cake.
You must learn to accept the fact that you will never have a kick starter on this bike. Just learn to hop up off the seat a little and push the starter button on your way down.....as a kick starter cannot be added to the Savage.

Tell 'm you kicked it so hard you broke off the kickstarter.
and if you want to prove you're tuff, learn to push start it.
that'll drop a jaw.

To whom it may concern:
My name is Ed and I live in New Jersey 15 minutes from Philly. I picked up my '07 a few months ago with less than 200 miles and some broken bits. You can do a lot with some help from the internet and a little superglue.
I also have an 81 Yamaha xs650 special and an 81 xs1100 midnight cafe project. I live for sunny days.

Hi Guys,
I've been watching the site for the past few weeks while trying to source a nice Savage. I'm in the throws of buying a 2002 one right now with less than 8,000 miles. My long term plan with the bike is to hard tail it with a voodoo vintage unit, I have a wish list and as with most guys it depends on the cash flow situation
Look forward to contributing here.
Thanks
G

Hello everyone,
Been lurking for awhile and getting as much ideas and info as I could before I got my bike. Now I just picked up a 1989 Savage, 32k km for 1000$ and ready to put my ideas to work! I live in Toronto, so the coming winter will leave me plenty of intimate time in my shed with the bike

Hi from Ca. My names Brian I just piced up a 86 savage. Planning on turning it into a bobber. It's been sitting for almost ten years but with a little clean up it fired right up.

Greetings from the Pacific Northwest. Just bought my Savage a couple weeks ago, an 89 with only 5100 original miles. Got it for a steal. I've mostly chopped Hondas and Yamahas but I've always liked the frame and single thumper on the Savage. This should be a fun build.
You seem like a good bunch of guys and gals. And you definitely provide a great resource. I just wanted to say thanks.
Pulled her in the garage tonight, modified that silly petcock and vac lines, checked the fluids and spark, little bit o starter fluid and bam! She started right up!
I got it to fire when I bought it off the guy. But this is the first time really runnin it.
He had to jump it off his truck so I didn't get to take it for a test ride. But I know bikes and this one was mint. I'll post pics of the build.

welcome
1st thing to read up on is...
http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?num=1344399573
and
http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?num=1366651397
be aware you with pre'95's, on shut down that big piston likes to kickback and you're without protection of the starter torque limiter.
