Hi Savages...   Wink

I'm from Sweden and new to this forum and to Suzuki LS650/S40 to...

My girlfriend wanted to take a motorcycle driving license (I have been riding since I was 18, I'm 50 now), so I bought her an old, worn down 50cc Suzuki K50 from 1979 with foot gear lever and told her that if she could learn to drive it safe and to take it apart (and getting it back together again) I would buy her a good beginners bike.

So she did it (the small Suzuki starts on the first kick every time now) and last year I bought her the best first bike I could find, LS650 1997...

She moves on so quick by reading books I give her so I was thinking that I better join this forum to try to keep ahead of her...   Grin

I'm in the uncommonly strange situation (but not bad at all) that my girlfriend is getting oily in the garage, and I have to make my own pancakes because she forgot all about dinner!!!... Brave new world!   Cheesy

Two months ago I got a deal that was impossible to refuse, two complete Savages and lots and lots of bobber parts for the same price as a cheap single bike... The former owner had become sick and didn't want to see the bikes again, just get rid of them as quick as possible... I'm not a guy with much money so I figured I actually earned money on spending the few I had on the bikes... Sell one, get one and a heap of extra parts for free... A nobrainer for me...

So now there are 3!!! Savages in the garage and my girlfriend is in some kind of ecstatic state of pleasure chock...

It also means that I spent the money that was saved for my old bike.  Two weeks ago she told me (the bike) that she ain't gonna go one more meter without some first aid, the drive shaft (propeller shaft?) came lose...

So, it looks like I'm going to be riding a Savage to this summer, my girlfriend would simply slip some cyanide in my pancakes if I would tell her that she had to wait until next summer to go on with the driving license (I have to go behind her on a motorbike according to rules here)...

Guess it's a choice between two kinds of Savages... A bike or a Kamikaze girlfriend...   Shocked

Anyhow, thanks for letting me in, I have a feeling that I need all the support I can get...  Tongue

Welcome to the forum, which you and your lady should find very useful. You would appear to have best of both worlds. You can leave your lady friends bike stock and it looks very good as is. The second set of bikes you can bob café brat? whatever or bring back to stock as it suits you and your lady.

Hi, all!  I'm Tara, and I'm a brand-new motorcycle rider and 2006 S40 owner from Fairview Park, Ohio.

I've always wanted to ride, and other life priorities got in the way.  Now in my 40's and with my only child out of the house, I decided to go ahead and have a traditional mid-life crisis: career change, divorce... oh, heck, why not?  And that motorcycle I've always wanted.

I'm already finding the site informative and useful - for example, I read here about the backfiring and did not therefore keel over in shock when I got back from my first long ride.

Looking forward to seeing you all on here.

Hi Everyone!  I'm a very new rider and this is my first bike.  Smiley  I'm from Columbus Ohio.  I'm not sure yet what changes (if any) I want to make on her but I'm sort of liking the cafe racers.  Smiles! Sky

Sky you have a very good bike, read and study up on the café racer type mods and talk to the moderator Dave who has done a lot of work on this type of S40. Consider getting at least a season, or several thousand miles on your stock bike before you venture into the mods. Study the cam chain tensioner issue and the petcock issue and don't charge into endless carburettor tuning.

Hello all from the DFW area.  I recently purchased this 2002 model with 2000 miles for $1250.00  My intention was to build the RYCA kit, but after riding around for a bit (and considering I just don't have much time for the project) I decided to build a bobber instead.  Thanks in advance for all of the tech on this site.  You guys have this bike down.  Like I said, time constraints so I ordered a Blue Collar Bobber seat, rear fender and light kit (SUPER nice people, btw) and am planning to do as much as possible next week since I have a little time.  I'm really enjoying this bike and can't wait until the bobber kit is on.  I will post some pictures of the build.  I'm not a bike newbie, own a few bikes and have owned other thumpers, but I am a newb to the LS650 so thanks again for the tech!

It won't let me post a picture until I have made one other post so here goes...pic to follow.

Govnor,

Where in DFW are you located?

I am just south of Denton.
