Anyway, I don't know what it is like to ride a primordial thumper, but I doubt it is much different.

The early thumper can hurt you when you kick start it, can be stubborn to start and keep running, it will vibrate the nuts/bolts loose while riding, and it can make your dangly bits go numb form the constant vibration.  Otherwise.....pretty much the same.

Greetings from the Beaver State, thanks for the add. Lots of great info read so far. Just picked up a 96. Very fun ride. Not sure how to post pics but will get it figured out sooner or later.

Hello!  I'm in the SF bay area.  I'm 6'4 and although I look ridiculous on my little Savage, i really love it anyway.

Howdy. My name is Mike. I bought my '98 Savage for a work commuter. Ran good but lots of preventative maintenance was scrimped on by previous owner. I love the bike and bebop around town constantly on it. It's got the normal Savage problem of not being able to hold its liquids (oil all over air fins on motor) and the cam chain is noisy as hell (parked for repairs now). Thanks for the info I will need in the coming future

Sup folks.  I've been lurking here for a while. Broke my last bike on the back of a moving van going to work in San Francisco. Fun little project/daily rider. I was looking at all my options and felt like a Savage would suit me well.

About a month ago I finally picked up a Salvaged '09 beater from a guy that does those insurance auctions. He's a dealer out of San Jose. The bike has it's issues but thanks to this forum I feel pretty well prepared. Already took care of the petcock swap, that stock petcock was killing the ride. This weekend will most likely drill out the mixture plug to get rid of some backfire.

Will most likely wait to fine tune it with a couple new jets until after I piece together a new exhaust. Thinking a Biltwell Stinger or Grenade. Will be checking the muffler shops to see who is down to make a bent extension. Stock muffler sounds horrendous and can't be doing anything positive for me right now.

Lots of other little things in the future to replace all the less sightly and/or broken bits - foot pegs, bars and grips, signals, seat, etc. There's a lot of potential in this little beast.

Here's me and the bike:
Note: this was the ride from San Jose to Santa Rosa where one blinker and the helmet lock fell off, also when I noticed the handle bars were loose and wiggling)

Here we are after getting a local shop to tighten her up and give a good once over.

Hey Ya all. Have checked out the site a lot since I bought a 2006 last year for my Wife as her first ride. I've been riding since 2000 with sportbikes as my choice of ride. cruisers hurt my back. as far as the S40, it fit her great. it was not on her list of bikes until I made her sit on one and then she fell in love with it. the problem is, she won't ride unless I go along. sooo, since I don't get to ride much (job in another state), she doesn't ride. anyways, it's a pretty nice looking bike in great shape. just over 2k miles. not a scratch anywhere.
Since the wife has some medical probs, she's seriously thinking about selling the S40 and getting a Spyder. which opens up the possibility of MAYBE turning the S40 (if I can convince her) into a Cafe bike. we'll see. It would be my first custom bike. love tinkering and turning wrenches. Thank you all for any and all future help.

Hey JohnPaul, beautiful bike. I've always loved the look of the savage in yellow. Enjoy it.

hi,
i am Agha Javed Fazil. i live in Pakistan. by profession i am into real estate but i have been doing engines both cars and bikes for twenty years now. where i live there are no specialists of big bikes and even i would say cars. the local mechanics ruin our bikes and cars. this actually is a blessing for me because this thing lead me to research and do everything myself and i think i have become reasonably good at what i do. my current project is a 93 mercedes E class W124 which i am restoring back to stock and the engine is going to be opened soon. i also have a suzuki boulevard s40 2009 which i am going to do the timing chain as it is grounded due to the tensioner issue. i also am working on an old cb650 which is totally dismantled. i do each and everything myself, the engine, the body and paint job, even leather the dash boards and door pannels and roof pannels. this is my passion and i love to study anything related to the autos i mean the technologies and the approaches of different manufacturers and companies. i love tools and this is another passion that i have. this is another of my hobbies. whenever i find a nice tool i purchase it.
i have great regards for sites like this where people can exchange knowledge and help each other. this is a great effort and i appreciate the guys running this web site

Welcome, the S40 community gets more international all the time. Is the S40 sold new in Pakistan?

Here is a pic of my Bobber conversion - I only need to put new front indicators on but the screws holding the original ones are too tight so will have to have a go with my impact driver tomorrow
