Hey everyone! I've been looking at this site for a few months now and have received a dramatic amount of help and info from it. Thought I would join and thank you for it.

I live in north west Georgia in a small town called Rome.  Let me know if you are near, I work in a bike shop so I may be able to get you parts cheap!

Got a 2006 S40 with 1,600 miles on it now. 17/43 chain conversion, modified the battery box with a shorter battery and now store the tool kit in the air box. Found an old Harley muffler in my collection and kind of noodles it I. there as well untill I find a suitable replacement. Swapped out to an old headlight bezel as a replacement one was $160 from Suzuki. Next it a cast wheel conversion. None of this would have been possible whiteout the information on this site. Thank you.

Welcome guys!

I am in north west florida (panhandle), i can do rides up to a few hours away if you are near. (four or five hours).....

I don't mind comin' by for a brew or two and saying hi and seeing your ride or showing you mine.

This place is a library of congress for suzuki savages or s40's !  Don't be afraid to ask ANY question!

I think of few of these guys owned the original 86 bikes... and maybe still have them! Smiley

Posted to RSD forum before I realized this was here. Deleted that thread.

-----

Greetings, good people! Well, I am the proud owner of a 2003 Savage, as of two days ago. 6,590 mi. at purchase. Smiley The bike was purchased for my wife, though I'll be riding it as well.

We are both nearly 40 and just started riding two years ago, despite both of us wanting to for many years. Time, money, space restrictions... you know how it goes. We both passed MSF BRC and I picked up a 1994 Yamaha Seca II (XJ600). Not long after, she decided on a scooter - a 2013 Honda PCX-150 that she loved. Back in 2002 she spent three weeks in Viet Nam and fell in love with the scooter culture.

Well, she had some difficulties last year so we ended up selling her steed, much to our chagrin. Things are looking up though, so recently she's been asking me about bikes. Naturally, I went window shopping like crazy.   Grin We looked at a Sportster 883: too heavy. I also checked out a very nice Honda Shadow RS: similar story, though I liked it a lot. It was also more money than we cared to spend. Then a couple of 250s, including a V-star and GZ250. (No TU250Xs popped up near me recently - those I do like.)

This one bike kept popping up on Craigslist... the S40. A few examples. I checked one out, a 2009 in that pink/white combo. We both liked it, but though the ad said "slight right peg damage," it wasn't rideable. The next day, something promising popped up... a 2003. Quite a bit less money, too. So, we checked it out!

The owner bought it 12-18 months ago from someone who gave up on it. The carb was cleaned, front brake pads replaced, front tire replaced. Started and ran fine - his wife used it, until recently when she changed her mind; up for sale it went. A few days later, we pulled the trigger.

It's a little rough around the edges, but not too bad. Looks like it was stored outside (two owners previous), as there's some surface rust on a few of the chrome parts, as well as the mirrors - I'll be replacing those pretty quickly. Found this forum and discovered that 2004 introduced a newer style mirror; the Bikemaster replicas run about $20/ea. at the cheapest online price I could find. The inside of the tool cover is pretty rusted too, there's also no tool kit.

(I'm open to suggestions on a good tool set to purchase for the bike - opinion here seems to lean toward non-OEM since they aren't great anyway. Fine by me!)

Plans for the bike? I'll be doing the white spacer carb mod I read about here, and may look into an exhaust next Spring... but not yet. My wife hasn't ridden for over a year, so I'll be starting her off slowly with what few warm-ish days we have left here in southern Pennsylvania.

Here's a few shots of the bike. The two from the previous owner:

And a few quick cellphone shots in my garage, pardon the mess!

Paint's pretty good, just a few small chips.

Every bike needs a stablemate! I'm planning a naked conversion for this one, with help from the fine FAQs on XJRider.com:

So, that's that.  Cool I'm an old forum hound, always good to find another respectable one!

Welcome to the forum! I've always been a Seca fan. Love those bikes. I like  the TU250X as well but the engine is just a little too small. Wish they would make a TU650X thumper.

Thanks! The Seca is great. I dropped it at the bottom of my driveway early on, so the fairing has a chunk missing at a corner but I've always wanted to convert it to an XJ600N anyway.

The TU would be fun as a thumper but I'd personally love say a TU500X or TU650X even as a twin.

Hello All!  Just picked up a used '04 ls650 that I'd like to customize with a chopper-esque feel/look.   I'm starting to do my research on my plan of attack for this custom modification - lots of stuff to learn.  I already have a couple of other bikes ('04 vrod & '09 star 950), but wanted something to really work on and get my hands dirty, so picked up the savage.   I'm in SF, Cali - if there are any other savage guys/gals in the area, give me a shout.   Smiley

Hi, I'm new to this site and just wanted to introduce myself.  I have a lot of experience with motorcyles and have a past history of racing quads.  My experience has always been 2 stroke ATV and dirt bikes and I have always had a motorcycle of some type, I get board quickly so I go through them.  I have built several cafe's and a recently built a bobber.

I bought this 97 Savage from my brother in law two years ago and only wanted it as a gas saver.  I didn't have any intensions of doing much more, however two years later I find myself tinkering with it and currently building a café with it (not a ryca).  I will be doing some other mods to it as well and planned to share those while the process is happening.

I came across this site will researching café conversions and really enjoyed what I saw.  There seems to be a lot of talent.

New member from Riverside Ca here although I thought I was a member back in the late '90s and 2000's before I sold my Savage.
Anyway I've riding since 1970 and have had just about every kind of bike.
I sold my '87 Savage in 2005 and now I'm looking for another.

I've missed out on a couple nice prospects but I'm sure something will be coming up for sale one of these days.

I'll post some pics of my 87 over in the picture thread.

Just bought a 2002 Savage with less than 3000 miles on it. Looking to change a few things and learn a few things about my new scooter. I've been around awhile. Long enough to have 8 grandkids. I've owned many bikes in my life from 50cc Vespa's to a "77" police special HD.
I've settled on the Savage after doing a good bit of research on many different single cylinder scooters. Basically it boiled down to economics, form and function for me. The LS650 has a pretty good reputation as an all around bike for multiple uses. I plan to capitalize on them.
Tonight I just got back from my first real ride. I put 48 miles on just putting around the country side. That is primarily the type riding I do. Riding both gravel and two lane hiways.
Thanks,

Gus
