How many miles on the '06? This engine likes to self-destruct around 10K miles if you don't keep an eye on the cam chain tensioner.  Wink

There's no problem that a full tank of gas and a sunny day can't fix!

Thanks. Mileage unknown, I have noticed that and I have all the parts on order. I plan on starting a build thread shortly.

Hey all, my name is Trent, I live in Salmon Arm, BC Canada. 54(21) years old, steep pitch roofer for 26 years.
I recently acquired a 2007 S40 with just under 12000 kms on it.
I hadn't ridden in 35 years, didn't think I missed it. Then last spring my dad decided his health wouldn't allow him to ride any longer and gave me his 2005 Yamaha TW200. Rode it over 5000 kms last year, and almost 2000 more this spring already (mostly pavement), and have never been happier. Decided though, that I wanted a little more bike on the highway. Enter the S40 Smiley
I've already done the mod to raise the front of the seat, what a difference!
The TW is currently undergoing extensive mods, but as soon as it is back together, I will be tearing into the S40 to check the cam chain tensioner.
Thank you all for the info, and I look forward to getting to know this site and it's inhabitants!

Greetings Everyone;

Facman here - retired and living in the hills outside of San Diego.

Got 2012 S40 with 11K miles last summer - with the info from this forum I have done air box mod w/uni element; dyna muffler; white spacer mod; rejet 52.5/155.
Riding since 1964; I like thumpers - currently also own Yamaha TW200 and SRX 250.

Bets Regards

Adding My Howdy into the pile...

I picked up an old 04 LS650 Savage on a messed up salvage title about a month ago.  Got it to pass muster for inspection and filed all my rebuild and bonding paperwork so I have a legal title and plates now.  It apparently operated for several years on a paper dealer tag and a salvage title passed around without signatures.

It runs pretty good and was not a bad deal for only $700.  Have lots of small things to tinker with and it won't go into 5th, so will probably keep it to local rides for now and break it down this winter.

In the meantime will be poking around looking for some parts and getting in my 10 posts so I can PM.

Oh... and really need a sissy bar to keep my kiddos from sliding off the back.

hi, my name's pete from the uk and i'm looking to swap my 650 versys for a savage in the next few weeks. i dont do the long trips anymore so looking to build a bobber/vintage thing for those country lanes. i cant find a pic of what i'm aiming for but if you type "suzuki savage sidecar" into youtube, you'll see what i have in mind. anyways, seems a very helpful forum so i'll be a regular visitor.

Welcome Pete! There have been a few side car installations done for the Savage but I've also heard it is a little under-powered for that much weight. Your riding style may be the determining factor.
