My last bike was a harley 250 about 30 years ago. I picked up a nice 2001 savage with 2000 miles on it this past spring from cragslist. It should have been advertised as "bankruptcy starter kit"
This summer, I have put about 3000 miles on it, with the help of this forum.
This winter, I will definitely have to do the oil plug, as it's certainly oily mess around the exhaust header and down both sides of the head. I carry a water bottle for me, and an oil bottle for her.
Thanks for all the contributors on this forum. Amazing group here.

Hello all,
Been riding bikes for about 6 years now, mostly Harley's with a Ducati and Triumph thrown in. Been wanting to do the Ryca bobber bike for a few years now and finally got around to buying a Savage. It's an '03 with about 10k miles on it. Started tearing it down yesterday. Looking forward to the wealth of knowledge on this forum!

Wow Chris....that must be a bad neighborhood that it could get stripped like that - parked right there in your driveway in daylight!

At least they had the decency to put it on a furniture dolly so I could roll it back in my garage.

WAIT....I think you can find the perpetrators!!! Look closely as it appears they may have scrawled their gang insignia on the driveway in sidewalk chalk!
Welcome, Chris H.

Hello, new here from the top of Maine. Not new to bikes, however I did just pick up my first Savage. It a 01, 18k miles that the owner was "customizing". Had full intentions when I bought the bike of doing a Voodoo hardtail, however after getting the bike running and trying it out I am undecided on the road to take with it

Hello everyone my name is Shelly and I just bought a 2000 Savage this past weekend. Loving it. Been reading this forum for a few weeks. Looking at changing the exhaust. Looks like I have found a great place for information on this bike. I have been riding a Honda Rebel 250 for five years. So I know nothing about the Savage yet. These posts are helping. Attaching a pic I took yesterday, it is a beautiful bike, just need to make it mine. The bike has been sitting for a while, only 16,000 miles. I live in Red Lion, PA.
