Besides, you have to be pretty hard up to jack a bike with an MSRP of 4 grand.....

But usually I don't bother. At home Thumper gets locked up in the garage, at work he's in an inside garage, shopping he's usually parked next to the building. on tour he was chained down every night

Here in Moses Lake I usually just pull the key and drop the helmet/silks and gloves in the unlocked trunk and do whatever chores I have and it is always there when I come back. Out of town I do lock the fork and carry a fork lock that I use. Moses Lake is still country enough that most of the farm PU's have the keys in them in front of the tractor/auto parts/ bearing/hydraulic shop place. I only pull the key on the '04 Colorado PU consistently as it was special order and it would take months to replace it. Our other 2 88 MY vehicles (GMC PU and Astro Van) have the key in them except when we are out of town. I'll bet I could borrow a vehicle from 90% of the farms here if needed as most have the keys in them. We have a couple little noisy dogs and a big lab, plus a couple debarked little ones so anyone or thing is announced. Savage gets garaged every night but the garage is often unlocked as is the OH door. BIg city or someplace I wasn't sure of I'd do everything I could to make sure it was there when I came back.

Mine's a '96 so you have to be pretty jacked up to take it, and I wouldn't stop them, I'll just phone it in with a picture.

I treat it like I want to keep it, but I wont be sweating it.When I park in parking lots that have security cameras, I park with one aimed at it. Otherwise, I get off & walk away, no fork lock er nuthin. I'll be back in a few. IF I am leaving it overnight, like a couple O weeks ago, when it had a flat, I applied the fork lock & ent hom,e. At home, its in the shop, all nice & cozy. I am more concerned about a cat hetting on it & clawing the seat than I am theft.

I understand your concern. I always wonder when I pull into the Wally world lot. I've have seen some people there.... Tongue

So I lock the fork. I figure if there are dumb enough to want to take my bike, they are also too dumb to figure out the lock.

A real bike thief will look at the bike and think.... I can't get anything for it let me look for a HD or sport bike. The "Kids" looking for a joy ride will think the same.....

Note: I live in the "megalopolis" of the east coast. Bike theft is a real thing here..... yes, I would miss my LS650 if it was stolen..... I do worry...

I have a short enough attention span to a vehicle that I would see theft as an excuse to get another one. I've never experienced a theft though.

I read a sad tale some years ago, an old man in New York city had had a couple of cars stolen, was broke & out of "heart" for more troubles. He went out to get in his car & it was gone. It was more than he could bear & he jumped to his death from the parking garage. Later, it was found parked on a lower level from where he THOUGHT it was. I wonder if he saw it on his way down? ( I can be SOOO mean!)
