Stock tool bag question
04/20/08 at 11:11:05

I dont have an owners manual yet and i tried the search but i got nowhere. In my tool bag there is this little brass plunger looking thing and i have no idea what it is for. It is spring loaded and pulls a vacuum when you have your finger over it and let off the plunger. Im not shure if it came with the original tool bag or not and the previous owner had no idea either. Does anyone know what im talking about? I can take a pic later if that helps. Thanks.

yes - that is used to measure the belt tension - a better idea is to adjust the belt using the 90deg twist method - check the tech section - I think it has a owners manual you can down load as well as a list of all stock tools in the oem bag

Yea, I lost my little spring loaded dooohickey, BUT, I bought another, paid thru the nose, only to learn a couple of weeks later that it was worse than useless. I am just waiting on the price of brass to get high enough to recover my $$$. The twist method works nice. Easy, less squeaking,

A search of belt tension in the tech section yields no hits.

So ... if I were to guess what the 90 degree test is, it would be that if you can twist the belt more than 90 degrees, you tighten it up until it has a 90 degree twist.

Am I right?

It is the secret mechanical signalling device for Savage owners.
Toss it over your shoulder and twist the belt with your bare hand. Sweet!
