Towing Savage

I'm looking for an inexpensive way to tow my Savage when I go on vacation with my family.  I am interested in the type that is a platform the bike sits on off of the trailer hitch.  The tongue weight on my hitch and vehicle is 500 pounds and the Savage is well under that.  But I still wonder if that is too much weight hanging off the end of the truck. The truck is an 02 Mitsu Montero Sport.

Another option is this one that holds the front wheel while the rear contacts the ground.  I've heard this can be hard on the transmission and drive mechanism (belt on Savage).

Thoughts on either?  Riding the bike is not an option since I can't fit my wife and son on it.

I have one of the tow cradles, some have said they tow it all over.  Me I just need a lift to the mechanic.  If wear is a concern, take the belt off.  The rack is an idea not available to me.  It should be within the limits of the rack and your car.

If you get a tow cradle, get one that pivots.  Due to the head angle, the bike will lean alot in corners.

How about a small utility trailer? It would work great for the bike plus could be used for many other purposes.

Something like the Harbor Freight folding trailer (I got mine from elsewhere ages ago) is one of the handiest things to have.  Mine went on a dozen or so vacations, carried the hulk of a '73 Camaro to the metal recycler, carried my old shingles to the dump, etc..  Four by Eight platform, mine tipped for easy loading.

Not to mention that for vacation trips it allows packing stuff onto the trailer rather than stuffing the tow vehicle.
