Vented Gas Cap 1996?

I was just going through some old posts ( the year of the bike was not mentioned) and noticed that the issue I am having, fuel starvation, may be related to the gas cap vent? Does any know if the 96's have a vented gas cap? I would test this theory out myself but I have to throw a charge on the battery. The cylmers makes no mention that I can see. I have tested the petcock and inspected the vent line and the gas line. I just want to try everything possible before ripping the carb down. Actully for the time being I am attempting to build my confidence up before I rip the carb apart of cleaning. Undecided

Reply #3 - 04/21/08 at 10:34:50 these do - you can see two little holes in the bottom of the center piece of the cap - I guess if it builds up pressure it will hold that in somewhat but will not allow a vacuum to build up - however sometimes on a hot day I can hear them hiss a little and smell fuel so holding pressure in sure isn't 100%

Reply #4 - 04/21/08 at 10:42:32 I am not sure of the rattle.If I remeber correctly I dont recall it ever rattleing. I did hear a LOUD hiss, after the bike cut out on me, that I did not hear last riding season.I am pretty sure it came from the cap. Is there away that you know of to try to fix this or do furture testing before I get another cap? ~Strafford~
