Mods I'd suggest:

Seat mod
White spacer/Idle mixture mod
Speedo rattle mod
Headlight rattle mod

I'm planning on the gel seat, forward controls, and highway pegs within the next 6 mo. to a year.  When I look at the time and money I've spent making it more comfortable, it probably would have been cheaper and easier to just buy a bigger bike to begin with.

Then on the other hand, I've learned A LOT from this bike and I truly don't think I'd have come as far as I have in 18 months if it wasn't for the S40.  Something I'll be debating with myself for a long time.

I'm 6ft, 260lbs. I've done a seat mod, and am in the process of further modification. Forward controls might be nice, but I'm not there yet. As for trading up to another bike, we hear that alot. I've even had the thought cross my mind since I bought the Savage; but then I remember a post in this forum of a guy who "traded up" and said that now his bike has to hooked up to a diagnostic computer before the mechanic can tell what's wrong with it. You can't beat the Savage for simplicity!
And Mick, diet?! Have you been talking to my doctor? Diet is just "die" with a "t" on the end of it!!! When I asked my doctor what diet they recommended, their reply was "If it tastes good, spit it out!"

forward controls, forward controls, forward controls.

seat mod helps, definately liked the white spacer air fuel mixture mods
but the forward controls made a nice bike a real keeper.

Yes I am a bit on the larger size. 6'2" down to about 270 now. Had to loose a little weight so my new chaps and jacket would fit. Lift the front of the seat to start with. I am going to do the forwards controls but I am long in the upper body so I am not so uncomfortable.

I was 6 ft and 326 lbs 1 1/2 years ago when I got my '06. Seemed like it felt the same as my Honda 500T I had in 1979 when I first joined the USAF, but 25+ years have passed. I commute virtually everyday across Memphis TN and back. I am now down to 260 after a gastric bypass done at the end of Jan. Would probably be smaller if not for my 'comfort' foods. I did the seat mod initially. I have put the 11.5 inch progressive heavy duty shocks and bigger tires on Suzi. I undid the seat mod and I like it better now. Would like to try a sportster seat one day. I can cruise 70-75 now in a 'sweet spot' of no vibration to speak of. I am very comfortable with the bike and learning a lot that I never learned in my younger days. It's a wonder I am here today!! Still haven't scraped the pegs but it seems like I should have at times. Welcome to the site and to the savages!! You will love the bike. Do a  MSF course and ride safe. Grin Grin Grin
