Ok, Its my first bike. Using the tech section, i was able to remove the carb. clean it. Put it back together. Also used lancers jet kit, i used his pilot jet, and the 150 main. I drained the gas (and refilled) , changed the oil, new battery. But its having trouble idling. Im thinking i just need to get the correct setting with the air/fuel idle screw. This morning, I had choke out, started it. after a few minutes i pushed choke back in. (this cut it off) then pulled it back out, and couldnt start it. (then had to recharge battery). Then I went to start it.. it started right up idled for awhile then died.(i didnt try anymore after this) Im using PRI while starting. Is this wrong? any help would be great? Possible Petcork vaccum leak? But with it in PRI does it still affect it? I really have no clue and need Help.

PS:I was able to drive it around the neighborhood yesterday, but had to keep it gassed up. (first time able to drive it since i got it) Very excited! The bike sat for over 4 years before i got it.

If you raise the idle speed, does it run??? The thought process here is that if it's slightly out of tune the idle would be too low. By upping it a little so that you can tune it, you may find it then get too high..... just a thought.....

yesterday, with out having to give it gas it idled longer. I tried screwin in the idle speed screw, but its like it wasnt enough. I have the air/fuel screw at 1.5 turns out now. But today, it would just cut off when idling. And then i couldnt get it to start back for awhile. The pilot jet is #55. I just need some trouble shooting ideas. Tomorrow after work im goin to try again, and see if i can get it to just idle, then slowly adjust air/fuel screw and listen. thanks for the help/ideas its greatly appreciated.

I put in a #050 at 3000 feet and seem to be doing alright. You are two sizes up from that, I think. That should put you somewhere in the 7000 feet below sea level range, if all other things were equal.

I would leave the petcock valve in the on position. Prim is only used if you have not ran the bike for a long long time or if you ran clean out off gas on the rode and you need to prim it back up on the back up reserve. And even then you only use it till the engine runs smooth. So basically leave the petcock valve in the on position for normal starting and operation. Also, do not leave the bike on prim as it could flood the carb and mess things up while you make adjustments. Hope this was of some help for you.

Yes it was thank you very much.

I live in NC. When i took the carb apart the first time. I stripped the top of the pilot screw, and just ordered the set from lancer. Should I purchase the oem pilot screw? And would this be what caused the idle to not increase enough as i screwed in the idle speed screw?

Fox,

Your problem could be one or more of several things.

Let's eliminate a common source of problems first with a simple test.

Crimp the petcock vacuum line. Crimp it tightly enough so that nothing can flow through it, not even air.

Put the petcock on PRI. If the bike runs better, that means you probably have a defective petcock. You may still have other problems, but the bike will not run right until you deal with the defective petcock.

thanks alot digger! ill try that too. I couldnt even start it up yesterday, so Right now i took the carb back off, and recleaned it. yet again and rechecked everything. Im goin to purchase a clear hose for the vac line. But im also goin to try what u said. When i go to start it, its like its not gettin gas, ive been tryin to start it in PRI and using ON. I think the few times it would run i was in PRI. Oh well, ive got nothing but time after work, so im sure i eventually get it.(with all you guys and gals help of course!) Thanks again
