So I scared him...

Went to the dealer today to order a new front tire.  Spent my time afterward perusing the merchandise and drooling over a few nice Triumphs, and of course, a salesman comes over to start talking to me...

Anyway, he asks what I drive, and I confidently tell him about my Savage.  (This is usually the part where they give you some BS about how cool these little bikes are  Roll Eyes  like I believe you, dude).  So anyway, next thing I know, he's telling me how these have been selling like hotcakes recently cause people just don't want the mongo 1300 beasts anymore.  I tell him that's why I drive mine, and next thing he says is, "ya know, I could give you a pretty good trade on your bike there."  Of course, he wants to see it so he can try and sell me on the idea even more.

Now here's where I need to let you all know just what condition my bike is in -
My one year anniversary with Suzi will be in a couple of weeks.  In this last year, I've put on 10,000mi on top of 8,000 that was on the clock when I got it.  Broken and poorly duct taped rear turn signal, hastily welded-on straight pipe, tank with a good dent in the upper right corner, side covers and battery box cover removed for quick and easy access to the battery, rubbed down paint where my saddlebags sat for a time, leaky and messy left fork seal, the usual oil around the head plug covering most of my jug, and the list goes on...

Bottom line: I ride my bike daily, and it shows.

It's safe to say that he walked me back inside pretty quick, handed me his card, and left me alone pronto after that.

I'm not hurt.  I know that I enjoy my bike more than anyone else I see on the road or at the dealership, so I go on living my life with Suzi by my side.     Grin

He was hoping for a low mileage pristine bike that he could buy low and sell high, not a well run Rat.   Ya gotta understand, most bikers don't ride very much -- which is why we can find the low mileage Savages.  Real Bikers do scare 'em -- or actually it is more that we confuse them.

Yup, there's a difference between utility value and trade-in value -- if one is high, the other is pretty low!

Your bike has a high utility value  Grin

Yup. I bought mine to reide too. I commute to work, and do all my running around on it, as long as I'm not hauling big heavy things. Got it at the start of June and now have 5600km on the spedo. And loving it!!!
