Carb Woes

I have my carb modded and exhaust replaced and the bike was still backfiring a lot. I was trying to adjust the mixture screw and stripped it. I then tried the cool Craftsman screw remover tools and because the screw is so darn soft it is just eating it up. I don't know if I have messed up the body of the carb itself at this point but probably did. Is there anything I can do about it or is it time to buy a new carb?

At this point, what's boogered is boogered so, you might as well get that sucker out and find out. If you can...
I'd try chiseling a small tipped flatblade screwdriver down into the soft brass, and then crank it out with visegrips. Use wd-40 or penetrating oil.
Hope for the best...
If you can wait a bit, someone else might have another idea.

How far down into the hole are you? Or how much of the screw is now gone? Can you see any of the remnants remaining of the screw in the hole?
I have had some success with bad situations...no guarantees but I may be able to salvage the carb.

Depends on how gutsy you are. If you want to continue drilling you need to go very slowly, use a drill size that is just a hair smaller than the threads in the carb body, and go down just enough to clear the last thread. At that point you may be able to get a small needle nose or little pick of some kind down inside the hole to get a hold on the spring and pull it out, and hopefully the rest of the screw as well. If that goes well then you need to get a tap and very gently clean out the threads. If successful, you can then install a new screw, spring, washer and rubber o-ring.

If you are not up to it I would be happy to try to do it for you. No guarantees, but it is worth a try.
