Nope, sorry. I offered to buy them from the guy when he offered them for sale, but he never answered my messages and email. I still have pictures saved of his work.

I suspect that he was afraid to sell them to me due to liability issues. He built them for his wife, who was a fly-weight, and I'm in the heavyweight division! Grin

Anyways, I'm real busy at the moment... If I get time after while (and the dang website will cooperate!) I'll upload his pictures to my website, and post them here, so people can take a look. He did a really neat looking job of it.

So as to not bog down this poor slow site... If you want to see pictures of a mid control savage conversion, go here:

And browse through the pictures. The guy who built this conversion said that it was rather "light weight" for his wife, but it looks pretty well built to me. I wouldn't want to stand like a dirt bike on the pegs all day, but for normal riding it looks sturdy enough to me.

I think the biggest problem is that it puts your legs in a very buckled position because of the super low seat height of the Savage. I'd still like to try it myself. Having a raised seat would almost certainly help.

Hi Gerald,

Sorry, I looked all through my extensive collection of modified Savage pictures; and while I found a few other pictures of that bike, none showed the left side clearly.

I'm curious though what it is you wanted to see on that side?

You did notice that besides being set back that the foot controls have also been reversed on that bike; to right hand shift like an old British bike?

At least I didn't. How do you know it's reversed? For me it looks like there's an aftermarket brake lever but I don't see any of the crossover linkages.

I'll give you a hint about what makes me think I know which side is the shifter and which side is the brake:

When you are sitting on your bike, preparing to ride away, which foot do you have on the ground if you are on level ground? Wink

Edit:

This fellow looks like he's about to ride away, and I bet he has the foot he plans to be shifting with up on its peg!

Of course I could be wrong, but I don't think so! Grin

These are certainly some pictures that I haven't seen before. I would certainly like to see that bike and talk to the owner.

Not sure that I agree about the shifter. First of all it would necessitate routing the shift linkage under the bike. Second, the rear wheel would have to be reversed so that the drum brake could be actuated from the left. I think it more likely that the individual was just posing for a picture, and not actually in the process of taking off. Of course, I have been wrong many many times before.

Nahhh You don't have to "reverse the rear wheel" to change the controls around. They can be activated by a cable. This used to be a common modification to bikes so that the controls would be on the correct side for riding flat track. They needed the shifter on the right side; because their left foot had a steel shank on the bottom of the boot for sliding it on the ground around the corners. Of course the flat track guys didn't much care whether they had any brakes at all, front or rear; and indeed most of them rode with none at all! Shocked

Great pics!...looks like a Savage hoot'n'nanny...not in U.S., plates are too big...the bike looks even better with a rider.

(edit) By Gumby,...I think you're right!...the tank pic seems to show a telltale glimpse of brake pedal on the left side...must be Brit... Wink

(re-edit) wait a minute,..I was staring at the kickstand...
This dude needs to do some explaining....cool bike though, either way...looks like he laced a 17" rim to the back, too...
