Dremel for bobbing
05/23/10 at 09:55:38
Anyone use dremel for modification work on the bike? Just and cutting off fender, fabricating licence bracket, etc?
Just wondering if I should fabricate stuff or buy premade kits. Kits feels like its a easier way, but also I would not have the satisfaction of saying... I made that.

I used a dremel to relieve the crankcases on KLX when changing the front sprocket from 15 to 16, I also made a spacer for the swap on my lathe. I do agree it's good to say "I made that".

p.s. I made an insert for my silencer to quieten it some.

I'll use the dremel in almost every mod, but only for the small stuff or clean up.
it would take a long time to cut off a fender with it.
great tool for precision work.

There is no feeling like telling someone who is admiring a part on your bike & asks "where can I buy one of those" ; You can't, I made that.

+1 on angle grinder. Get the thinnest plate you can get and have at it. Dremel is very good for precise work.

Personally, I don't find many uses for the dremel. It's too small and most of the attachments just don't hold up for me. I prefer a good angle grinder, a porta-band & a die grinder.
If you have the tools and ability to make something yourself, do it. There is no satisfaction like it, plus you end up with a product that is one of a kind. Something to be proud of!!

Tie,... I was sorta' kidding,...
... but I have used the angle grinder more on my bike than a dremel..
$10 or $20 bucks at Harbor Freight...
depends on sales...
