count your blessings. I've only been riding 3 years and have been stung repeatedly in the armpit, of all places, twice. Seems something about my jacket just scoops them up and funnels them in to one of the top 5 worst places to be stung.

A couple of years ago in Scottsdale, AZ a female motor cop caught a wasp under her faceplate. It stung her more than once, and she lost control and crashed into a large stone. Several broken bones and weeks in hospital.
A 1/4 oz insect came within a knats a$$ of killing a 120 lb woman.

About a week ago I was riding along and got hit right in the adams apple by a bumble bee at 55 mph. It didn't sting me, but, the collision hurt like hell. I realized my jacket was only zipped at the bottom and I was afraid it might have scooped up in there, so was waiting for additional pain to come. Didn't happen so I guess it didn't survive the initial impact. From then on I always zip up my jacket as far as it will go no matter how warm it is. I'm currently running without a shield so I've been catching a lot of bugs lately. Took one on the side of the nose the other day, I thought I'd been shot with a bb gun. Better save up for a full face helmet I guess.  Cheesy

Ah yes, everyone has a story. Mine is of a wasp that flew inside my shirt during a 20 mile bicycle ride. It stung and stung untill I was able to squish the bugger. Shocked

Back in '63 (Heaven Help me!) on rte 128 near Boston, bee hit my eyebrow and ended up between my glases lens and my right eyeball.  Bee kinda involutarily moving its legs on my eyeball.  Stopped the bike (305 Honda Superhawk thank you)as fast as I could, jumped off and threw the glasses on the ground.  Poor little beastie fell off my eye which thankfully it didn't sting.
Don't EVER want to try that again. Shocked

I am not sure if this works on Wasps. Yet it does on Bee stings. Take a cigarette if you have them. Break it and wet the tobacco and apply to sting area. This takes the sting as well as helps with the swelling.

I personally know this works on again bee stings. This is just one of the lessons I remember from my loving Grandmother and have passed on down the line..

Yes, it works for waspers too! That's an old trick & a good one to pass on! Chewing tobacco or dip works too...

drharveys... I feel your pain, around here we call them dirt-dobbers. They build nests everywhere. I bet I can go out and find 5 or 6 right now... My boss's bike was running crappy the other day. We checked his fuel filter -good, checked his air filter and had a big dirt-dobber nest up in it. It was originally in a spot that was out of the way but had fell down blocking the airway. They are annoying as hell but like you said, harmless.
Those honey bees aren't bad unless they're Africanized. Luckily they haven't made it to this part of the country... yet!

My buddy had a big bee in his shirt when we stopped for a drink today. He didn't even know it until we were inside & he felt it crawling around. A quick shirt shake and it was loose in the store. No harm done.

I hate when you hit a june-bug or something while going about 70mph. Those suckers are hard & they'll bring tears to your eyes if they hit you in the right spot!

Actually once when I rode my Savage from Portland to Illinois, I got beat up in a rest area with another biker. They stole my coat, helmet, money, camera etc. Knocked a tooth out and my eye was already swollen from being hit. While I was sitting on the picnic table with a ambulance driver, a darn bee stung me in the adams apple. A day later I was trying to ride with a swollen lip, eye, and neck from the bee sting. I had another bee get stuck between the helmet the police dept gave me, and my cheek bone! I looked like something out of a horror movie.
