Never been to Sturgis, but used to live a couple hours south of there.  As far as hotel bookings, you have to book WAY in advance, like a year or maybe even more; they get snapped up quick!  I suspect the same is true of bike rentals.  On the plus side, there's a lot of small towns, and at least one larger one, at least by South Dakota standards (Rapid City) within a reasonable distance, with better liklihood of finding a room.  But since it's so popular, this is indeed the time to start planning for the 2011 rally.

I've heard both good and bad about it also; like was posted earlier, it just depends on who and where you accociate with.  Kinda like the rest of life! Cheesy

Another answer that your looking for is the biggest and closest Airport of any size is going to be in Rapid City, which isn't really all that far from Sturgis. It might take some working around to get you there from another major US city VIA UK.

Haven't looked into Rapid City, but I got a flight from Portland to Denver, and from there to Alliance in Nebraska, fairly straightforward for such a small town.  Seems like you can get flights to and from just about anywhere through Denver.

mick should get a Ridley  Grin . OR maybe a foot clutch hand shift set up. Sure maybe your hand is paralyzed but you can still use your wrist to put pressure on bars and a tank shift knob. How's a diesel motorcycle suit you? Plenty have built diesel bikes with torque converters.
