Here I am, a Libertarian. Even we see the right of others to swing their fist stops at the beginning of our noses. The media have tried to make Libertarians out to be unreasonable people, but I, for one, am an American & I believe our borders are to be protected & immigration controlled. The Open Border people are free to tear down their fences & post signs "No Guns, No Locks" " Free food & medical care here" " We love you more than ourselves"
The problem with this well is manifold. ( He he,, I snuck "Manifold" into a post on an oil leak) BP Chose to take risks that were insane in themselves, knowing the statistics on well problems & how a failed cement job rates so high on the list of reasons for a problem. They KNEW their BOP was, at best, compromised, & likely useless. Which it was. They had the well under control, with the 2 cement plugs being held in place by the heavy drilling mud. Yet, knowing their BOP was flaky at best, they decided to replace the heavy mud w/ sea water, which decreased the hydrostatic pressure holding down on the upper cement plug, which allowed the formation pressure to drive the plugs up the wellbore.
How would smaller govt have been able to respond better? Why hasnt this Huge Monster of a Govt done a beter job? Why did we turn down aid from countries with the equipment to skim the mess off the water & seperate it out? Why did they refuse to allow La. to build berms to protect their marshlands? Why are there oil booms still sitting in warehouses? Why was it necessary to unload a boatload of them & transfer them to another boat, in order to COUNT them? A smaller Govt wouldnt have the power to stop Louisianas Governor from protecting his state from the oil. They wouldnt give him authorization to do what needs done, pretending it might create an environmental problem. As IF some dirt could possibly be worse than the oil that was certainly about to create a HUGE environmkental problem. This isnt reasonable, this is obstructionism, making the crisis as huge as possible. The beneficiary will be the govt. More power is coming to them. Growth thru failure, weve seen it all our lives. Unlike private sector failures, where people get fired for things going bad on their watch, the Goobs just point to a lack of funding & the need for more beaurocracy & the sheeple stand in line, bleating "Yeees, Yeees, fix our problems, take our $$$ & our freedoms & solve all the problems".. Govt inspectors turned blind eyes & watched porn & played online games & did some chit chat on Facebook, instead of watching what was going on.
If you were sitting at a T intersection & straight across the street was a playground full of children, if you put your hands over your eyes & floored the car & it raced across the road & ran over a dozen kids, could you really call that an Accident? At some point, there are enough "Red Flags" to make proceeding less than PRUDENT. What they did , knowing they had a bad BOP, was far from prudent. Pulling the mud off the plug was more like an act of sabottage than anything. Calling the result an accident is a bit of a stretch, IMO.
& for all you Big Govt types, p[lease, step back & look at how things were in the 60's & such. Look at things now. We have less freedom, more taxes, less industry & more govt than ever. Weve been watching Govt grow for decades. Im not seeing things get better. Quite the opposite. Things are getting worse & worse & the single commmon denominator is, Govt has been growing & growing & growing. Read the Constitution, read it till you understand the concept of freedom. Learn about the Federal Reserve. Until you understand that, your opinions on the economy are based in ignorance & therfore, irrelevant.
