a few weeks ago i replaced my petcock with a raptor. this evening i left it on and went out later to discover a pool of gas under my bike. it's late and i'm not tearing inot it right now but it would be nice to know what i am up against and what the price tag may be. air filter replacement? carb float replacement? wall replacement from the hole i'm about to punch in it? all of the above?

If nothing else, I'd be changing out the needle valve and its seat.

I'd probably change the oil, too.

Retail on those float needles is outrageous... Pull the float bowl and clean up in there, then try it out...
Could be just a piece of grit...
Definitely do fresh oil...

... dealers and boutique shops want $30 to $40 dollars... I found a local vintage cycle machine shop that scrounged me one for $4.00... look around, look local, and look dirty... Wink

The new veeblefetzer and framis, along with all the gaskets and o-rings should do it. If you can't get them, take the old ones out and clean them in solvent, and clean the inside of the valve seat with solvent and a Q-tip. Blow it dry with compressed air before re-assembly. Phelonius

i pulled the carb today. i cleaned it up real well without too much disassembling and took it down the street to an awesome old school bike repair shop. i talked carbs with the guy for a bit and he messed with it a little and said the needle valve seemed to be performing as it should after the cleaning i gave it. i picked up a larger main jet for $2 while i was there and went home to put it together.
i tried to do the spacer mod but one of those two little screws down in the thingamajig got stripped! arghhhh! i dont know how if ever i'll fix that.
the bike is running fine now and not overflowing.
