Now I could officialy say I'm proud to be an American, unlike most of you guys I had to jump through hoops to become one.
First I had to apply for a immigrents visa and green card ,in all that took 3 years of paper pushing, interviews, running back and forth to the US Embassy in Berkley Square London just to dot an i or cross a t.
And then the dreaded interview with the Consulate general, (remember by this time my Dad was a citizen) I sat down in front of him ,his first words were "Why haven't you got a Batchelors degree ?"
I told him the truth ,I didn't know what a fu*king batchelors degree is,let alone have one,Then he went on to tell me that most Americans had collage degrees, I said "Wow that's amazing, they must all be very clever" I went on to say that if all these brainiacs are doing there thing they must need people like me to chauffeur them around, or become a butler ,or a valet, I said I heard American love English butlers" I said my Sister went to Kentucky and was a nanny to the Haliburtons (true) ,he stamped my visa and said "good luck"
5 years later I took a short American history class and became a citizen. Seeing America is only 250 years old the history class was very easy.
All that being said.
I will be going back to England soon for a visit, guess what passport I renewed ? Yes sir,my British one.,britain is one of the few country's that you can never lose your citizenship,if you are born british you die british. What the heck I might renew my US passport just in case.
Now, am I proud to be an American ?

Thats funny.,.& a good story, too, Mick.

Are you proud to be an American? Thats your call. It was something YOU did, so you could be proud of it. You accomplished it. You ever think you joined a club that was involved in activities you didnt approve of? Or thatstood for things you didnt agree with? Its a tough call, innitt? Doesnt appear to much matter what "club" we're in, seems they all do things that reflect poorly on the members.

Ohhh, come on Bill, if she was a fat old hag youd hate her. She SHOULD be completely irrelevant, based on her performance, IMO, yet, the media traipses around behind her, splashing her every word around like it means something. She is nothing more than a political construct, an actor on a stage, used, used to tear down & build up, different objectives. Her endorsement of anything is the kiss of death for it, because so many think she is an idot. When she stands against something, the same bunch sees it as an endorsement by a genius, because she is so often, so wrong.

Star's quote: "Because she is the epitome of what's wrong with America, and poor parenting to boot. Greedy, uninformed (read stupid,) trailer trash family values, quitter, anti-American...the list goes on and on."

Ron Paul may be honest but libritarian ideology will not work for the US.

A common misconception among the politically unsophisticated is that liberal kindness and tolerance extends to those who do not warrant it.

My mother was  naturalized - Canadian- took the test and everything in her 40's. I was born here. But to tell the truth, I am not proud of the US-. It is a mean country, aggressive, cheating, racist, and stingy. But that is only 1/2 the country. The other half is open-hearted, tolerant and forgiving. I am proud of that part of the US. This woman in France did what many Americans have done, killed their children. I don't hate them for it. I wouldn't burn them at the stake. I just wonder why they were so unhappy, or were they ill. I've seen animals kill their young - when they thought they couldn't manage. I think that is why abortions take place. Life is not easy. Yes we can always be tougher, but some of us don't have that ability. They are the ones who need help from the rest of us. We all help others, even the angriest of us and least tolerant of us. It is like gardening, it is what you put into it, and even then it may not be enough, and we have to try again. Smiley

Almost right TC I would go with more like three quarters of the country, not half. When I move here from the old country 1967 things seemed so much betterwithin a few months I had a load of friends, admittingly they /we were all members of the Long Beach MENS golf club, the women had there meetings on a different day,we only had one tournement a year when the lady's played with us,no disrespect lady's but you just don't hit the ball very far,and a game with women takes twice as long, anyway I loved thosa days, get away from the wife.  But nowdays peaple reall do seem mean, and very tight with a buck, while on my trip I was having a cold one ,two other guys were sitting at the bar making small talk with the BT they had about 6 cocktails apeace, and left the bartender a lousy buck.
Boy this thread has gone a long way from a french murderess.

I'm thinking spay/neuter ought to apply to humans too... Lips Sealed

Now Skate is your mother responsible for every thing you do. [/quote]

No, my mother taught me to be responsible for what I do.
And that would include not being stupid enough to get knocked up in high school. Alaska does have condoms, birth control pills and free clinics just like the lower 48.

And Sarah Palin came into the conversation because she was the first person that popped into my head when I thought about the spay-neuter comment = and that applies to the French person in that a hysterectomy/vasecomy would have solved some problems in both cases.
